The S130 Schnellboot Project
The Wheatcroft Collection are proud to announce the latest addition to the collection – the S130 Schnellboot. This is possibly the last remaining S-boat and as such is of great historical importance. It will be restored back to a fully operational condition and to its exact original design, fittings and armament (decommissioned of course).
This particular boat was in continuous use from 1943 until 1992 and has a full operational history. Not only was it used by the Kreigsmarine but also by the British SOE in the cold war. It is also quite famous for having taken part in the Slapton Sands attack prior to D-Day.
The Research Squad will be documenting all stages of the restoration with the aim of producing a book, and are also responsible for the ongoing updates to the dedicated S130 Website. The first of the updates shows the operation to move S130 from its berth and into the restoration site in Cornwall.
Not only will there be regular photo updates but also clips from the underwater salvage operation on three S-boats in Denmark. The collection welcomes any inquiries and offers of information that might help in the restoration, and interested parties can get in touch via the website.
