I’ve built a very small tug, it’s only 14 inches long, great for sailing on the garden pond when I can’t get down to the lake. The speed control and drive is taken from a scrap servo ( the gears were shot). This does work and speed is fine but the dead or neutral band is tiny, and I can’t work out how to increase this. Has anyone got any ideas. I seem to remenber Glynn doing something similar years ago, or maybe that’s just a senior moment.

An alternative is to still use the servo motor as a drive motor and then install the latest tiny lightweight M-Troniks ESC which would do the job. Or ‘Action’ could provide something equally suitable. I note for plastic magic conversions done by Dave Abbott, that generally he has used a servo motor for drive but a commercial esc for speed control.

          Lindberg?
I’ve been running one of these with the same arrangement for about ten years. Zero deadband, but no worries. How often do you come to a dead stop and stay there?
I just use the trim as an engine rom telegraph.
