      Hello All,

I would be interested in comments from fellow modellers as to how they obtain decals for their scratch built models, in terms of boat names, manufacturers names (e.g ChrisCraft), model names (e.g Constellation) and port of registration.

Are there packages available for the computer or can you have decals made professionally?   My local print shop told me that they can source the kind of material that the Revell and Airfix decals are printed on, but they are supposed to be very expensive and hard to find!

Also, has anyone found any cockpit / wheelhouse console or instrumentation panel decals?   I have a flybridge cruiser that is missing just such items to finish her off.

As always, any advice is very welcome,

      Regards,

      Ian.

Hi Ian    I got paper from  this firm and made my own transfers, a bit fiddley but it worked.

In my old aeroplane making days……………I used to make my own transfers

I used heavily gummed paper and simply painted on the gum with coloured dope…than soaked it off and placed it where ever

The beauty of this idea, is that you could cut round the transfer with scissors and in that way, you`d have a crisp sharp edge!

          Bob`s yer uncle!

But nowadays…you could use sticky backed plastic.

if you supply a photograph to BECC ( a company specially dealing with vynil sticky backed lettering of all shapes and sizes) they will do one off commissions for you, and are of fantastic quality.

If you look on my photo gallery at the three boats on there, all the lettering and graphics were produced as a one off each time by |becc.superb to deal with, too.

There is certainly some ‘food for thought’ there!
