It has been announced  on Mayhem that MFA are going out of business.

This will be a real blow for so many of us who depend on their brushed motors and supporting products which remain the option of choice for so many of our scale models. Not everyone wants brushless motors and the MFA products have served us well for very many years and are still frequently the first preference for so many of our models. My Bilsdale paddler is dependent on one of their geared motor options and there doesn’t appear to be any alternative on the market.

The best thing about MFA is they they are just about the only supplier who provide comprehensive technical specifications on every motor they sell.  They also provide an extensive range of products to ensure you get the perfect match and unparalleled technical support to help you pick the right motor.  This is really sad news.

May be time to speculatively purchase some of their geared units. Price will only go up on ebay….

If you are doing a paddler, these geared units are a must, and the 2.5:1 540 unit is great for larger props.

            Hi All

I just ordered two 3.7 and one 5.18 gearboxes from Aliexpress to mate up to a 550 80 turn brushed motor.

The 3.7 gearbox on the 80 turn motor( 5500 rpm @ 7.2volts unloaded) will 1486 rpm at the 6mm output shaft.

The 5.18 gearbox with give me 1061 rpm at the shaft.

If I change to 12 volts the 3.7 gearbox (2434 rpm) and with the 5.18 gearbox(1737 rpm).

At present I am running my Eileen and Helen fishing boat with straight 80 turn motors on 7.2 volts with 60mm 3 blade props.

I am only using 50% throttle for scale speed.

So one of the Helen’s is in for a motor change.

I’ve received information from a reliable source that Component Shop are buying MFA stock and will continue to trade the items.

                That’s good news.
