        Hi model boaters,

I am still after a lesro 575 as I had one years ago. It would be ideal for me now as it is relatively small with not much draft, ideal for the quarry pit lake locally.

I had contact with a chap but I feel it's cost would be beyond my reach.

What kits are available these days, not tooo big with shallow draft, RC.

What would you guys recommend please ?

It might be worth sending a PM to one of the contributors of this thread:

I know its old but some of the contributors still post.

You never know one of them may still have one available. If you are not a member ask again on here as many here are members there as well.

            Thanks had a quick look…

Any recommend a modern alternative, relatively small so light, and more importantly a shallow draft…please ?

              Hi Rich,

The best small yacht on the market is the Graupner Micro Magic 22" long keel depth 6" sails like a thoroughbred, 2 standard servo's

My grandson learned to sail it in 10 minutes.

              Regards Ray

Thanks ray, I will research that one.

I had a 575 in the day & I agree that it was great for shallow and /or weedy lakes due to its shallow draft and the shape of the keel which didn't want to snag weeds. That, I think, precludes bulb keels and hence the Micro Magic.

Regretably I am not aware of a modern alternative. It was a simple shape so somebody might still form them.

Thanks. Yes one would hope a manufacturer would be kitting it again.

There was a whole completion class based on the model kit I believe ?

Just to clarify, the lesro 575 has what is called a "bilge keel" design/shape hull ?

                        Hi Rich,

There may have been a racing class 30 years ago, but I think they have been superceeded.

The 575 has a long keel & seperate rudder bilge keels are where there are 2 keels popular with fullsize yachts as they can dry out and sit there, but they don't sail as well as a fin keel.

                        Regards Ray

                          Hi Rich,

This my Micro Magic such a handy size, I would suggest if the weeds are too bad on your water find somewhere else to sail ?

But you could put a line from the base of the stem to the front of the bulb which would stop it snagging on weeds but even the 575 has a rudder to get caught

                          Or build a 575 from scratch ??

                          Regards Raymicro magic 021121.jpg

Make one from scratch, is there a plan available, even hull outline in sections, don't know the proper name for that but you know what I mean…
