Hobby Engine “Richardson” tug boat upgrade

I have recently purchased a Hobby Engine Richardson RTR tug boat

The included 800mah battery allows only about 20 minutes running and range is just 100 metres.

      Proposed Upgrade:

I have replaced the battery with a 2000mah NiMh subC flatpack, but I am looking for advice on how to replace the supplied RC system with my own Futaba T8J aircraft system.

Also, how to remove the deck which remains fixed in place even when the 12 screws on deck are removed!

Probably one or two more screws hiding under deck fittings.

If hunting on tinterweb, it might also be known as "Southampton". Probably a few rebuilds around, hopefully by people who have found the hidden screws.

If only the sailboat crowd see your query and ignore it, it might be better posting in a more general area like "all things…" or "beginners".

Malcolm's right, a quick Google for model southampton tug got a lot of hits, including modifications. After a quick look, he's also guessed right about hidden screws. I got that from the rc groups site

There are quite a lot of others, including videos.
