can anyone identify this boat

Hi Mike

I,ve been through all of my library and the nearest is a Vic Smeed model of the early 60s but I have to say that this example looks like a home made / scratch build of a basic river cruiser.

However from your photos it does look like a very well made plank on frame mahogany hull but I am not sure that the cabin is original as it appears not to be built to the same high standard as the hull.

To explain: the hull has some very nice lines and complex curves but the cabin is very box like and of a far simpler construction.

Having said that this is a very nice little model and one that I would like to own if only to do something with the cabin.

Thanks for listing it as I have spent an enjoyable afternoon trying to hunt it down.

 thanks for your interest and input, but im still not sure at the moment how to proceed, if you take a look at sir donald cambels boat  "blue bird of chelsey" the hull lines are very much the same, i believe a thornicroft design but i have know idear how to finnish off the superstructure, so you see i have a bit of a delemma untill i get some more input or pictures of a similar boat.

Mike      Totally agree with Paul, cabin is not original and certainly should have more shaping, hull is very typical of river craft  1930’s thro to very early fifties and indeed many of the’ little ships’ that went to war were of this type so info on the evacuation might give some clues, [ Internet, Library etc ] certainly worth a look, in the meantime will trawl my own extensive collection for clues.  Happy Hunting!

thanks  merlin, i agree with both of you on the cabin and i have very gingerly removed it. i will take up your advice on the little ships i had not thought of that GOOD IDEA  off a hunting i will go again.
