Beccles Coiler

I’m asking in the hope that someone may have a plan to build a Beccles Coiler, as used on Seine net fishing Vessels in the 50’s 60’s and 70’s.If not any good photos or drawings would be appreciated.

                                                I’m a member of the trawler photos website, I thought I might cast my nets in another forum to see what I could trawl up.  I got some pics and sketches from BillMaca, I’ve also been in touch with Alan Block of AG Block Sales the manufacturer of the coiler, the reply I got back from him was rather suprising ………..he could not give me a copy of the drawings as the manufacture of coilers is still an ongoing business, and he said he could supply a complete coiler or any part required.

If I could get 3 or 4 photos of the same coiler plus a couple of correct dimensions, I could get the rest using my proportional dividers, and produce a workable drawing for myself and others to use. I’m a trained marine engineering draughtsman /designer who has been doing this for close to 50years.

Hi Dave. See if there are any photos of an Inverness boat called the Alex Watt on TP she still had her coiler on her up till a few months before she went ashore ( I did a few discard trips on her out of Lossiemouth/Burghead in the 1990’s when I was working for the Marine Lab in Aberdeen as a Scientist ).

I think there might be a coiler at the Anstruther museum ( give jonah on TP a shout on that one if he’s still on the site ) as the one that was at the Buckie Drifter museum has been put into storage since the museum shut down ( try Buckie council they may be able to let you know where it is and if its available to be measured up ).

I have started to build a model of a 1954 Scottish trawler and require drawings of a beccles coiler. Has any one been able to source drawings etc?
