Think this a speed control

hi is there anybody that can help me with a problem I have been given a Action P 33 which I believe is a speed controller but I cannot find any instructions any where have sent a email to component shop but I don’t hold out much hope has anyone had one of these or has some instructions so that I can put this unit into a small boat or give me an idea as to wire and set it up

This unit was already obsolete when we bought ACTion from Craig Talbot in 2007. He didn't leave any copies of the instructions or circuit layout but his work is pretty familiar to me, having soldered up one or two of his designs since then… I can certainly tell a speed controller from a switcher or sound card.

I asked Component Shop to request a couple of close-up photos of it from you to help identify it but none were forthcoming. If you could post them on here then I might be able to cast some light on it. The only other hope is Stan Reffin of the Kirklees club, who seems to have bought every ACTion unit ever made and kept all the paperwork! I think he looks in here from time to time but he posts regularly on Model Boat Mayhem as 'Stan'.

What it is NOT is a 3 motor/rudder mixer.
Stan Reffin is correct. It's a 10A speed controller, specifically an old one with a ZN409 Servo Driver chip. From the top of the photo down the terminals are Motor, Motor, Battery Positive, Battery Negative. Motor Voltage would be from about 3v up to 12v but you'd be OK with a fully-charged 12v SLA battery. Rx battery pack must not exceed 4 x 1.2v cells. It does not have BEC but will run to full speed in both forward and reverse. The two trim pots are for setting the neutral and the speed range. If the unit doesn't work then I have some spare ZN409 chips but I'm not sure which MOSFET Craig used. The legend is on the body of the chip which faces the PCB. From the way the terminals have been twisted it looks like the screws have been over-tightened and the tracks on the PCB underneath may have been broken. Try it and see anyway. If it doesn't work let me know via Private Message.
