This weekend gave me a mixture of conditions in which to test my model. As I suspected neither the “mixer” or twin throttle sticks (ie track laying style) proved perfect for sailing a model with twin independent motors and no working rudder.
The mixer was better for gentle sailing around but I found that the twin throttle sticks felt more comfortable when attempting delicate tasks. At times the mixer left me feeling as if I was not in total control of the model and some overcontrolling was obvious.
I suppose that it is as you say “horses for courses” and you need to experiement to find which method suits a specific modeller/model combination. Luckily for me changing between these methods involves only one switch on the transmitter and swopping one lead over at the receiver.
