        Dear All

After years of building my own designs I am currently building a kit and surprisingly I'm actually enjoying it.

Its a well designed CNC cut wooden boat and in another change from my usual projects this one is only 2ft long,

I feel like I'm doing micro surgery using tiny tools and magnifying specs but at least I'm warm as I can work in the lounge.

          I guess it`s a precut launch type?

            Hello Captain Bob

I'm revisiting my childhood and building a model of a boat that had a huge influence on me ….but can you guess what?

                A clue

When I was 14 I had gastric flu and was off school for weeks and sometimes watched the BBC2 test card films one of which was called 'Ride the White Horses'

                Can you guess?

No its not a Lesro Arrow speed boat although I can see why you are thinking along these lines.

                          Ashley

Not even in my most tormented dreams have I ever envisaged a floating stable but having thought about it I can see the merit of such a construction as it would be ideal for Seahorses.

As usual our gallant guru has put his finger right on it and has guessed correctly, but having looked at the photo on DMs link I don't know how I will come to terms with that dangling propshaft.

An excellent choice, even though I say so myself!

Ref the propshaft angle, just grit yer teeth and do it…. After all, I spent umpty-squillion quid on the propshafts for Sea Spray/Ellie to achieve your version of a compromise.

                                Dave

I have to admit that I am impressed with this kit as the drawings are clear with lots of supporting build photos, the wood is of good quality and very accurately cut but best of all the instructions are easily understood.

Its good to support a new and upcoming designer and I am looking forward to seeing his next project.

The urge to reduce the propshaft angle to something more respectable is almost overwhelming but it would be rude to change another designers work. But I am thinking of changing the single prop to a twin as I have a nice pair of brushless motors in the drawer.

Twin motors? Don't go there. Tried it once; still have the scars. One motor in a two foot boat is plenty. I have a spare one if you're still undecided.

                                  It's already 15°.

                                      The build continues:

I am still messing about with the parts and seeing how they go together by dry fitting them, its pleasing to see that the cutouts for the joints are tight and need a very slight trim for a perfect fit.

Impressed by the quality of the timbers.

Bob I will try to take the odd photo but worried about comments from ……………

The build goes well, I thought I had found a problem but it turns out that I was using the wrong piece of stripwood, it just goes to show that its a good idea to read the instructions properly before starting, it also shows the value of dry fitting the parts before using the glue.

Not much to see, the frame went together very well without any drama or tantrums……as they keep saying on TV. 'It does exactly what it says on the tin'.

I have deviated from the design slightly by filling the bow compartment with balsa, this isn't to overcome a design fault as it is simply my preference to fill any inaccessible compartment, either with balsa or poly-foam, to prevent the possibility of flooding, it also helps the boat bounce off the pond wall when I stuff it up.
