      Hi All

Needing a boat for my grandson for the new season,I went up into the loft and found a long forgotten project which is the smaller of the 2 kits available built in wood with 2 600 size motors the plan is to complete to operational and add further details if we think its worth it ! The cockpit detail will be basic and the windows are next to be fitted making her watertight. Started with staining the cockpit and putting the waterline on with a Sharpie pen in a block of balsa.

            Hi Harry

This as you will understand is "Classified Information" for fear of my wife using it as evidence to allow her to buy more clothes !! but a hazy memory of hundreds of plastic kits bought over the last 40 years are being used as insulation to the roof for a rainy day.

                huntsman 2 jan 17 003.jpgHi All

Back into the 31, it must have been the thought of securing the window frames and acetate glazing with hundreds of 10ba bolts & nuts which halted the project. 5 years later and I've discovered Pacer 560 Canopy glue which dries clear so with the frames sealed and sanded and painted silver the acetate which pre-cut in the kit is trimmed to final size and with the magic glue the whole thing is Poundland super glued in place, If you feed the SG into the joint it doesn't make the glazing misty. Snowing here could be a good building weekend Regards Ray

I would have stopped as well at the thought of using all those tiny nuts and bolts.

I have had a few projects stall when you get something like that. All you need is time….mull it over…find a way round it, as you have.

Perhaps the worse job I ever stalled on was all those portholes on the Titanic, and tiny square windows. In the end all done in 20 mins with masking tape, a pre-holed template and a fine marker pen…

                    Hi Ashley

Yes its all in the thinking and preparation ! perhaps 5 years was rather extreme ? but you may have noticed a build 5 projects at once and planning 2 years ahead. so when I get fed up with one I move on, Really enjoy building hulls and finding the bits for the fittings etc The Titanic must have been a challenge with all those icebergs around

                    Regards Ray

                          Hi Dave

Yes the screens on since I took the photo with canopy glue, will be sticking the framework on tonight using Tamiya flexible masking tape as it will go round the bends should the framework be Aluminium or White the photo on the box is of Jomad is not clear. The grab rails on the coach roofs are hardwood plinths with chrome rails ? I'm getting carried away with the details now

                            Ray

There's only one photo of Johmad in existence and it's very unclear. I've had access to a real H31 ["Mirak"] and the window frames are white, with chromed strips holding in the acrylic sheet screens. I used self-adhesive chrome-coated vinyl sheet (off the internet) for the metal. Just plain white looks good from anything further away than a couple of feet. The handrails are as you describe. This shot shows both; let me know if you need any others – I've got dozens!

I took these photos about 15 years ago at the boat yard at the bottom of my road at Allington Kent of course the screen covers were on ! Did you design the original Model Avionics kits back in the 1970's ? I had the 46" version back then but I never finished it.h31 001.jpg

Guilty, as charged. I can't believe that was 45 years ago but the mirror and the bathroom scales both confirm it.

Did I send you a copy of the Fairey wings logo? I made some 1/16 scale bow badges from waterslide inkjet paper for my two smaller models. Being a large JPG file it will scale nicely to 1/8 for your model. The 'wingspan' full-size is 185mm. Unfortunately the 'Huntsman with the horn' logo won't show at all on a dark background; the gold just disappears.

                                  Hi Dave

You are truly a legend ! those kits have stood the test of time, I was interested to see SLEC have started distributing the Vintage Model Boat Companies re-issued Aerokits & Yeomans. I have used a colour copy of the Huntsman/Horn stuck on the side, It looks ok on the cabin sides. I may do the same with the wings.

                                  Regards Ray

SLEC will shortly be adding my 1/16 scale Huntsman 31 [MB Plan 2111 **LINK**] to the range of kits and have commissioned me to design and develop a further model – but that's under wraps for the time being.
No – I can't tell you when H31 will be available or how much it will be, but construction is identical to the plan version with the exception of the prop tube, which is increased from 6mm diameter to 8mm. The seats and scoops will be vac-formed styrene while the smaller fittings will be cast in either resin or white metal. I believe that a Turnigy brushless motor, glass-nylon mount, flexible coupling and plastic prop will be included.
The SLEC folk used to be Precedent, and some of them were even around as Model Avionics, so they should know how to present a Huntsman kit.

Found some very old Letraline flexible tape for the windscreen frame mainly to define a clear line for the paint, this tape I used to use for bar chart programmes back in the 1980's so it has an amazing shelf life. The roof grab rails are bar b que sticks which are roughly 1/8" diameter and slightly oval which I will paint silver when the varnish has dried on the small hardwood support blocks.

It does look a bit naked without the pulpit railings but this may be all for the good as there will be less to break !!
