        Hello Everyone

I'm just making a return to boat modelling after a LONG gap (50 years).

To get started again I've just bought a very tired model of the bouy handler MV Conserver, which I believe has been built from the Model Slipway kit. I don't know the age of the model but the rc receiver is Futaba 27MHz 2 channel unit and the speed control is by a normal servo moving an arm on a variable resistance – so all that will need updating. The hull seems sound but pretty much everything from the deck up will need rebuilding or replacing. I've seen the very good photos uploaded by Mark Beard et all and believe me they will be VERY useful.

I'm wondering if anyone has a copy of the drawings/plans or instuctions that came with this kit originally that they could either let me have or copy for me, and I'm very happy to reimburse the costs of doing that.

I don't think this will be a fast turn round to get it back in the water, although provided floatation tests in the bath don't reveal anything too drastic then it might be a bit quicker than I at first thought as provided I can get the topside waterproof some "sea trials" might be in order to make sure that all's well.

I'll be needing new radio gear for it as well,  I'm assuming that 2.4GHz is the way to go, and I'm thinking that a 5 or 7 channel set might be the best bet, as while overkill for this model, would allow me to be more ambitious with future models without having to re-equip. Any advice on that would be very welcome as the only books I have on radio control have valve circuits in them!

Apologies for such a long post, but looking forward to getting sailing again.

        Keith

You might try Model Slipway first for the plans and instructions. They are always helpful and if they can provide the info you need then I'm sure they will.

Ref the radio, a 5-channel 2.4GHz radio without any computerised functions will set you back less than fifty pounds with one servo. The sets with more channels tend to be specialist aircraft or helicopter sets and cost a lot more for functions which you'll probably never need anyway. The Planet T5 has wide distribution in the model trade and is a very popular radio. We have one as a test set and I reckon it's every bit as good for boats as the Futaba 6EX, which cost over twice as much.

For guidance on installing equipment in R/C boats, you might have a look here http://www.action-electronics.co.uk/wd.php

            Hi Dave

Many thanks for the information, I'll contact Model Slipway and see if they can help.

The Planet T5 was the set that I thought I'd be going for, as I've read good reports about it on other forums.

Thank you for the link to Action Electronics I need to study their website and offerings carefully.

I've had the model floating in a bath of water overnight and apart from some minor leaks from porthole glazing it's passed that test OK, so progress is happening.

I will take a look in my garage tomorrow. I might have thrown them out but I still until recently had the plans and the intructions. If I still have them you are welcome to them. Will let you know.

I will put some more up if that helps you. I will check out the garage tomorrow night. There were 2 sheet plans but I had a tidy out recently and cant recall if I still have them.

Your half in luck half out of luck. I cant find all the instructions and plans – in looking for it all tonight my memory came back and I recall dumping the instructions but I have still got side 2 of the two sheet plans which is essentially the wheelhouse as viewed internally and the deck plan looking down onto the deck. Yours it you want it. – pm me your address and I will send to you in the next couple of days. No charge – postage is on me just drop a 50p which is the cost of the stamp roughly into the next Help for Heroes box you see.

                      Hi Mike

That sounds great, I think that is just the info I'm looking for anyway. PM sent and more than happy to make the contribution.
