      Hi all

As my hovercraft nears completion it is time to think about my next project.  My local model shop has a couple of Billings Boats models around the shop and I quite like the look of the Evelyn Rose or one of their coast gaurd boats.

Has anyone had any experience with these models and are they any good?

          Hi Andy,

I have built the Billing Nordkap and found it an excellent kit that made up into a lovely model.

i built a couple of graupner kits they are useally  good kits but  most  are  not
for the beginners  the plans are good but the write up in the instructions leave
a bit to be desired probaly  because they are a german company i have done
four or five over the years  ie paul denker  tina and a nordcap they make good kits
but maybe they have changed  i would the model shop to show you the instruction first
or ask what the rateing for kit ie beginner  or some modelling  experiance needed
            hope this helps mick

Billings’s boats are very good and the range is divided into sections dependant upon the builder’s ability.
My only caution to any modeller would be to realise the limit of their abilities and not to be over ambitious when buying their first kit.

I agree, John, buying a kit beyond the level of the modeller’s level of ability can sometimes be  something of a turn off. As I mentioned above, I found the Nordkap kit to be excellent, but Billing do say that a level of experience is desirable. In my view, the biggest problem facing the builder, especially an inexperienced one, is the placement of the running gear and radio set up, as the model was designed as a static show piece.

                  Writh Leader,
Billings are one of the oldest model boat manufacturers around. They are still going strong because their kits tend to be very good. There has on occasions been issues with the quality of materials, but not for some time. As long as you follow the above advise and  pick a kit that is within your level of experiance you will have no problems. Oh and their after sales service is very good too should you have missing parts or other problems.

                    Thanks for the advise guys.
I may try the coast gaurd boat as it says it can be RC, and is one for a beginner.  I will see if a local shop has one I can look at.
