What is the difference between normal and Race packs. Is it just marketing hype?

There's a premium to pay for what are often called "race packs" in that the individual cells are matched for near identical and optimum charge/discharge rates. IMHO this only matters in competition electric boats, and I would imagine that most of those are powered by Lithium battery packs of some kind these days. For "normal" use I wouldn't pay the extra.
