gday folks , we have a old taycol type motor in an old tug , can we suppres the old motor to use w new rc gear ??

problem seems to be comutator sparks +

it also has 3 terminals to drive motor .

i have tried green caps on terminals , better, but some servo judder still, any idears ??

I think you’re on a hiding to nothing, mate. Those Taycol motors have been tried with modern RC stuff but they are just too noisy to suppress successfully with VHF gear. I don’t know how they affect the new breed of microwave sets though (2.4GHz).

The other problem is reversing them, where I understand you have to swap the polarity of two of the wires. Maybe someone will correct me if I’m wrong here, but I don’t think they will work with pulse-width-modulation electronic speed controllers either.

IIWU I’d save the Taycol for the display case and fit a modern brushed motor instead.

yes ,i think it will go to heaven-he has another johnson 888, no longer available , but a good boat motor , we will fit tooth belts w 3:1 reduction to 70 mm prop , in 2+busler hull, ex vic smeed , and get it back on the water , not bad for a 25+ yr old hull !!
