Hello Chaps Im new to the forum

Is there anyone who could tell me where I can obtain the Red & Yellow stripes that go round the hull of a model lifeboat.

Do they come as one piece  or are they seperate colours?

Also whats the best way to put these on?

       Thanks

      Nick

Car body lining tape from a car assesory shop such as halfords, motormart or any long established car assesory shop. it’s a "thing" of the 70’s and 80’s and the stuff is getting harder to find as "go faster stripes" aren’t cosher on cars these days, but there is some still about if you look.

Model Technics trimline tape is worth a look at, available in the red and yellow. I’m using it on my 1/12 Severn. There are several widths on the roll and the length is 2.5 mtrs.

                Paul.

                    Thanks for your help.

Its a finished Arun lifeboat but it been in the loft for a few years and needs quite a few thing doing to it. one of the things I was going to do was to re-spray the hull again.

As I see it, the red and yellow stripes are not the same width, they vary in width from bow to stern. As a dedicated scratch builder, I have found a wicked way to mould the silicone mould making latex from Hobby’s ltd. to make a true scale 1/24 th scale rubbing strake, as I could not buy any from anywhere. there are more uses for that gunge than Heinz varieties. I made the H/F whip aerial on the port side out of brass rod and connected it into into my radio control receiver aerial. I made an Arun in 1979, and showed it at the model engineer, but it was against a model of the vanguard which was the size of a house. go to see a lifeboat anywhere, and you will see that the paintwork shines like a new pin, and I’ve always gone for a high gloss finish on my lifeboats because you will never see a scruffy lifeboat anywhere. p.s. I paint the lines and the writing on my boats by masking the areas I dont want painted

Does the width of the lines vary from bow to stern on all the types or just some ? RNLI Drwg 1702-02-01B  for the severn shows the lines on the side elevation to be of the same width.

You’re right Paul, I have just dug out RNLI drawing 1603-02-01a for the Tamar class, and It too shows the lines eqal widths,
I must mix more water with it.

Mike, Thank goodness for that . I am in the middle of a build of a Speedline Severn and I have got an A4 sheet of items that need further research , things that I thought were cut and dried but someone has said ‘are you sure that’s right’ or ‘ I don’t think it’s like that!’. I know that the boats vary within the same class but once somethings been pointed out I just have to check hence the list and I would rather it didn’t get any longer. Oh and keep taking it as straight as possible, the tricky jobs seem to get a lot easier the neater it is.
