Thank you Paul
It`s nice to know in advance that my article has turned out ok!……..Can`t wait to see it now!
The new lathe is great……I needed it for turning small diameters at 2500 rpm, the masts and spars for instance…….The Myford only ran at 850 rpm and is hopeless at small diameters due to bearing wear.
The launch date of the Leviathon is a long way off yet………..but there`s no rush……..I`m really enjoying making this model……everything is a challenge……..and I`m really fascinated with the history of the ship. What a pity it wasn`t preserved like the Great Britain and it`s a real shame there are no relics on show anywhere. Well there is actually……the flagpole at Anfield football ground is a top section off one of the masts! …..There was a story that one of the main cabins was sold to a girls school in Birkenhead and used as a pavilion and since they were made of teak…….it should be still in resonable condition…..it may show up one day!
If the model turns out ok, I shall offer it to Paul as a future article……..and that is a long way off!
