As some of you may have noticed the Mayhem website has been down for several days. There had been some problems and Martin said that the site was under attack from denial of services. One of the error messages suggested that an index had been corrupted.

I have tried emailing him for an update but his email is linked to the site and mine was bounced back as undeliverable.

There is a Mayhem Facebook site but I am not interested in joining that. Hopefully he will be able get things fixed soon

After very nearly 20 years of being a member there, I finally gave up on them recently after yet another incident and asked for my account to be closed.  I have much better things to do than get tied up with their postulating and ego massaging.  As expected Martin didn’t even bother asking why.

There are still some decent posters on there and I know many of them personally. I tend to ignore the ones you refer to Richard and agree that there are some plonkers!

Like it or not, Mayhem is still, one of the last remaining model boating communities on the internet and it would be sad to see it go. Like this Forum, activity has dropped off considerably over the last year or so.

We do need to hang on to what is still available. We don’t know whether Kelsey Media will be prepared to support Model Boats in the longer term.

The reality is that model boating is becoming increasingly fragmented and dependent on local clubs rather than the broad church it used to be.

The trouble is that its not the plonkers that are the problem, it is Martin’s failure to deal with them.

Yet again a question was asked by a newcomer, I posted an answer and some smart alec jumped in with an extremely rude derogatory clever dick remark.  I made a comment that was why I didn’t post on there any more and reported the inflammatory post to the mods.  My post was removed and not the inflammatory one!  No communication from Martin, nothing.  So I asked for my account to be closed.  Again no question from Martin it was simply closed.  Sadly the plonkers have been allowed way too much slack over the years, even now when there is almost no activity Martin still refuses to moderate when necessary.  Its not a case of whether I like it or not, Mayhem no longer exists as far as I am concerned and I’m better off without it.

Hi – the golden rule of certain forums is, DO NOT LET CERTAIN PEOPLE GET TO YOU.  There are sadly, people in this world – not only on Forums, but actually members of Model Boating Clubs, who excel in certain areas of the hobby – i.e. painting, electronics & etc., and what they certainly do not excel in is the understanding of people and the best way to engage them is to keep the topic very simple so, you may easily engage the person.   If the person wishes to take the topic further its up to that person.  Remember Dave Milbourn – he always fell out on Mayhem – what a miss he is.

Here is me crippled with me back today, after I tried to pick a bottle of lemonade up – so I still have to sort out me workshop lighting.   Me back just cracked and lumbago has set in.   Well, enough of my moans, onwards and upwards.

                    John

Totally agree John, invariably the challenges come from those who are highly knowledgeable in a specialist subject and seem to think that makes them better than everyone else.  Unfortunately they are so preoccupied with showing how clever they are they completely fail to understand what is required to explain something to people who haven’t got a clue what they are talking about.

Sorry to hear about the back John.  The lighting will have to wait a day or two!

Blinding people with science is the correct term I think.

Sorry to hear about your back John, hope it clears up quickly. Maybe next time make it a single malt to dull the pain…

Dave M didn’t suffer fools gladly but he sure knew how to explain things and was always ready to help someone willing to learn – including me.
