Hello,

Does anyone know if there has been a Model Boats article about motorising the Titanic plastic kit ?  I would like to obtain a copy.

Not sure about the Titanic but once you have read about any plastic magic conversion then just adapt it to suit. Some models are small and can only be sailed on very calm waters.

Whose version of the Titanic is it? I have done one before and used a small 6v motor on the centre prop

The model is made by Academy who I believe took over the moulds from Revel.  The ship is 1:400 scale.  It is 27" long and only 2 5/8" in beam which will make it very unstable on the pond.

If you line the inside of the keel with strips of lead it makes the model a lot more stable, to do this you have to test the correct ballest in the bath. A single 6v motor can be used to drive the centre prop (I know this is not as the real item but needs must) with a low weight reciever and esc you can make quite a good radio controlled boat out of this model.

This is the version of the titanic that I applied the plastic magic treatment to and provided you dont go to fast the model is quite stable in calm water.

Thank you Sam.  One final question, with what did you seal the prop shaft to the plastic hull?

I used epoxy glue (2 pacK) but I tested the glue on a scrap piece of plastic first to make sure that it did not melt the hull.
