A Lake Champlain Steamer

On our recent travels in the US we visited the Shelburne Museum in North Vermont.

 

One of the main exhibits was the Lake Champlain steamer Ticonderoga which dates back to 1906. A superb job has been made of preserving the ship which was hauled over two miles from the lakeside to its present location.

Plans are available from the Shelburne Museum which include plan and elevation views but not hull sections.

 

It would certainly make an interesting modelling project.

Wasn`t there an aircraft carrier with the same name?…..or very similar?

Or am I having another of my senior moments?

Yes Bob, she was one of the WW2 Essex class carriers. Funnily enough another of the Essex class, Intrepid, is preserved in Manhattan and we paid a quick visit to her while we were in New York – very interesting as she had a big selection of aircraft on view and in the hangar. I don’t think Mrs B was altogether fascinated though….
