I saw this lovely boat in Chichester Marina back in 2016. Marine Traffic shows her currently at the Folly Inn on the River Medina, Isle of Wight. Name is Zenique.

        @Ray

have re-read the entire thread several times

just in awe of the quality!

I downloaded the plans from the July2024 issue, it’s a shame they’re split into A4 pages

is it possible to get hold of the original plans somehow?

does the hard-copy (paper) version of that issue come with real plans,

so many questions – so excited

looks like my next project is lining itself up nicely 🙂

(& I love the balsa planking and block stem & stern 🙂 )

        cheers

        Mike

          Hi Mike,

Yes she is very old school Vic Smeed in concept, one of my modelling hero’s 🙂

Private message me your address, I have a spare copy.

          Best Regards

          Ray

            Hi Colin,

Zenque is a lovely boat 🙂 not to sure where or when a cruiser turns into a yacht ? she’s on the edge.

Being tempted back my drawing for the Spring 25 made famous by Howards Way, wing keel & twin rudders, my sailing designs are normally popular 🙂

            Kind Regards

            Ray

              Ray,

The MG Spring 25 was very well regarded when introduced and sailed well, but to me she doesn’t have the character of a wooden build traditional design like Eventide and looks like any of the many other ‘plastic bathtubs’ of the time. It would be interesting so see how the wing keel and twin rudders scale down performance wise but visually give me something like a Cornish Crabber!

There are some very interesting comments on the MG Spring 25 here:

I will be sorely tempted when this gets to be published and it will be interesting to se what Ray does with the wing keel and rudders.

I had a Jeanneau 28i which was designed by Tony. It had one of his winged keels but Jeanneau managed to put it on crooked and on one tack there was no leeway and on the other there was lots.

That must have been a bit frustrating!
