      Hello all,

Would anyone know if there is a problem with the Christmas/December issue of the magazine ?

I still haven't received mine yet.

      TIA

There doesn't seem to have been any problem with the magazine, I got mine as normal. Could possibly be a problem arising out of the postal strikes.

You don't have a subscription number on this website so I am guessing you bought your sub from a third party. It's probably best if you contact the Mortons Subscriptions Dept, contact details ( phone & email) can be found in the last issue.

I hope it turns up but the postal strikes are making delivery dates very difficult.

If it doesn't turn up don't let the publishers tell you they will send another copy. I have had this with another publication/ publisher and you just get 2 copies of either the next issue or the one after that. It appeared that all subscription copies are sent out in one go and that there is no distribution of that issue beyond that initial mailshot.

Ask for your subscription to be extended by a month & source the missing issue yourself.

I started taking the magazine again about 4 or 5 issues ago and in that time, two have not been received. All credit to Mortons, a phone call to their office, and each time I got an apology, was advised the date that the original had been dispatched and a replacement was received within a couple of days. I also find the current editor to be very good, any emails sent are responded to in good time, unlike one of the previous editors who populated a couple of pages of the magazine with little snippets "allegedly" sent in by readers stating how good the magazine was, but somehow he never received any adverse comments from disgruntled readers like myself. I sent him three, but sadly they never reached the pages of the magazine.

I have found tht Mortons seem to be pretty well organised and responsive too.

Hi there, if Model Boats deliveries are anything like my wife's Garden News in the post – you will probably receive 5 together. Last issue was 5 days late, my wife informs me this week's issue hasnt arrived at all. Well we can't beat Royal Mail these days – perhaps a stagecoach with a horse might be a better option.

My December issue is here – it came by a well fed horse and cart.

It all gets sent out at the printers at once – after that you are in the hands of Royal Mail which is not what it used to be.

People seem to be confusing blame between the publisher and Royal Mail.

If all the magazines are sent out at once and some do not get them promptly it is clearly not the fault of the publisher.

I think the publisher could reasonably expect you to wait a few days or week before sending out additional copies.

Like Colin and Richard, my Christmas issue came in on time.

                          Ashley.

I agree that for a monthly magazine a weeks delay is OK.

Generally our post is OK apart from our weekly TV magazine which is on subscription and has a definite shelf life.

Normally they come the Tuesday before they begin on the Saturday. At the moment they can come anytime. One hasn't turned up at all and another arrived half way through its week and after the following issue!

As you say not the fault of the publisher but that doesn't solve the problem. I also think that postal strikes are a very convenient excuse for lots of problems.

If you refer to my previous post on this subject you will note that over 6 month period I had two issues which did not arrive. My opinion is that Mortons or their distributor should review the method of packaging. The covering is "see through" and therefore the contents is obvious. I also receive two other magazines from another publishing organisation that are packaged in a plain white envelope and to date no problems at all.

                                        Hi Ashley,

Thanks I enjoy producing the articles, but since Covid this attracts a standard fee of £250. at pre Covid this article would have been worth £600, so it's my charity work to support the magazine and Mortons really, you know how much effort goes into producing the drafts, photo's and building the model

But I have recouped some money the Eventide is sold to Graham Ashby

                                        Regards Ray

I have never looked on the article money as “income”, I look at it as being reimbursed for building a boat. Free boatbuilding…great.

It still makes me smile when I have a conversation with someone who thinks we make good money from writing for the magazine! I am currently doing a kit build review for the magazine, which initially sounds like I am getting a free model boat kit. When you then consider it has cost me a speed controller, a receiver, a servo, a motor, a coupling and a battery not to mention special glues to stick wood to vac formed plastic such as Stabilit Express at £28.00 per tube, by the time I get paid for the article I am not going to have a great deal left. And that does not take into account the hours that have gone into the build and the writing.

As Ashley and Ray said we must do it for the fame and glory or the love.
