      Fellow Modellers,

I have recently acquired through eBay a very neglected HMM Wavemaster.   Has anyone else got one of these / built one?   I have only yet found poor quality black and white images but would be interested in seeing colour pictures / plans so that I may restore her to as near possible as she would have been back in the 50’s/60’s.

Latest picture is offered in ‘My Gallery’

      Best wishes,

      Ian.

        Hi Ian,

you’re not getting much of a response to your question are you? I remember seeing a few of these around in to 60s. All I have been able to find you are a couple of adverts from 1955. These were well liked models in their day, and now seem to be as rare as hens teeth.

The only advise I can give is to follow the “look” of aerokits models of the time which are much more common, and pictures should be abundant. You could start by looking at the Sea Queen re-manufactured by Jotica.

Good luck with this, I’m sure many of us would like to see how you get on, perhaps a few photo from time to time.

        Chas

          Chas –

Many thanks for the interesting information and the publicity pictures of Wavemaster when she was new, its very much appreciated as is the information.

I understand this kit is a 1953 model, and it is in quite a state and the more I work on her, the more I find to do (my list is increasing by the hour).   I have just replaced the wood rubbing strakes around the hull as they were rotten / missing and now I have to make a decision whether or not this model will be for static display only or if I shall motorise her (she has never had a motor fit) and I’ve never motorised a boat before so it could be interesting!

          Thanks again,

          Ian.

            Hi again,

I really hope you motorise the model, there are so few of these that it would be a treat for many of us to see it going. I’ve always beleived that some models only come to life when in the water.

If and when you decide to get it going there will be no shortage of ideas for motors, props, batteries etc. If you go down that route, you may find it wise to fit a suitable prop tube and shaft in these early stages, unless there is already a good one fitted.

              Chas –

It gets more daunting by the minute this project – I would love to motorise her, and I have a good contact at my local model shop that can provide assistance / supply the necessary bits and pieces, the prop shaft is in tact, but the keel and wood supporting the prop shaft is crumbling away, so there is a lot of work involved in that area.

But yes, I am going down the route of motorisation.

I’ve replaced all the wooden rubbing strakes this afternoon and the next job is building a windscreen.

              Best wishes,

              Ian.
