        Hi all,

I usually build static models (don't hold that against me surprise) but have been given a model yacht to restore. I only have the hull, so am trying to find out if it fits to a certain class so I can add correct/appropriate masting and rigging (as well as keel and rudder).

        Pics are here: http://imgur.com/a/oWV15

Unfortunately the family member who passed it on has lost contact with the original owner, so all I know is the following:

        – as per pics, hull is 223cm / 88" long (seems longer than most classes I could find info for online)

        – beam is 28cm / 11" and waterline length is around 81"

        – constructed from fiberglass (csm rather than cloth) with ply deck and wood deck beams

        – provision for radio control, has linkages to the rudder and likely the boom/sails

        – was originally located (we think) in NSW, Australia. Not sure of age

        – is missing the weighted part of the keel.

I'm not looking to restore it to racing condition, but just to get it on the water again. So if not identified, even some guidance on an appropriately sized rig and mast dimensions would be a start.

        Thanks!

[edit]: not sure how to attach pics, hopefully the link works, should be fine if you copy and paste into a browser address bar.

Read the Forum FAQ's – the link is near the bottom of the column which is on the RHS of this thread.

At the size of your model, it could possibly be an AC 10 (1:10 scale Americas Cup) yacht. Popular in the USA, Australia, France and Italy.

It will make a beautiful yacht.
