        Hi

I have I believe a Merco 61 marine engine with external water cooling. I need help! the boat and and engine have been stored for many years and when I decided to bring her out of retirement the engine is seized, not with corrosion but seems to stuck with the old lubricating oil solidifying. I have tried various solvents and easing oils with any success. Any ideas would be appreciated.

          Hello,

Its the castor oil which causes this, it sets like glue….The best way is to strip down as much of the engine as possible (cylinder head and crankcase cover) then soak it in fuel for a while, this usualy breaks down the castor.

          Regards,
