I`m glad you said that Alex……………..I`m doing the same thing with Great Eastern…….but with more poetic justice and artist`s license. The finished result may raise a few eyebrows………but it should look quite spectacular on the water!

Hi Bob, Alex,

I don’t know why some people are obsessed with being "true scale", I’m like you, and use a lot of poetic licence – using matches it is difficult to get the accuracy required for all the detail, so a lot of it is left out – So long as I have the feel and atmosphere of the boat then I’m happy – after all I’m the one I’m making it for !

I really do agree with you there Ken…………….."true scale" must be absolute torture!….and where does one deaw the line?

Hi Bob and Manxman,

I think your attitude to model boating sums up the majority of us,  in that if the feel and atmosphere are correct, and it gives us fun and self satisfaction, well thats what its all about.

I get a lot of pleasure from my hobby and I don’t claim them to be "true scale" models, but they satisfy me and if you look at the new photos I’ve put in my gallery of "Mandini Palm" you’ll see what I mean.

This model is built to my own design based on photos of several real ships, and I like the look of her even if she isn’t true scale. I just built her up as I went along and I’m no naval architect.

 Even her name is ficticious. It came about just by wanting to build a model with a green funnel!                A.T.
