Been given a boat but what have I got

Hi,

 

I have recieved a boat from a deceased relative it’s HMS Bluebell. I am trying to understand the elecrics and r/c. I have lots of re-chargable batteries. I have ordered a book to help but can anyone give me a simple understanding of what go where and what it does?

I have put some photos in a album called Flower Class. I have managed to draw out a circuit diagram and have got the servo working and the motor via r/c. I am not sure what the circuit board does that is mounted on the underneath of the top section that comes off. There are some lights fitted which appear to be powered by a battery pack but there are other lights that do not come on.

 

The boat is also fitted with two smoke units that work when I throw a switch but do I need to put something in the tubes for this to work correctly?

Photo #1 shows a 2 channel Futaba receiver connected to a standard Futaba servo for steering. The 3-wire lead coming in from the LHS of the piccy is from…..

Photo #2, which is an Electronize electronic speed controller. This should be plugged into the spare socket in the receiver.

Now it gets hazy………..

I can only speculate about what connections were intended to be made by the builder. What we would really need is a sketch of the connections which are made to those two switches and to those sockets affixed to the switch plate ahead of them. See Photo #3.

That board under the S/S is a total mystery – I’ve never seen a commercial one like it. The battery connection looks like a 9v PP3 clip, and is there an on/off switch at the end of the green wires? The detail of the board is fuzzy – are there fuses on there?? Photos #4 and #5.

On balance I think it might be best if you were to settle initially for
what we can sort out i.e. steering and forward/reverse + speed. The lights are a secondary issue and, unless you use a manual switch to
turn them on and off, won’t be useable with a simple 2-channel set.

Do you have any details of the motor and prop which are fitted?

My suggestion is to strip all the stuff from the boat, making notes along the way as to what is connected to what, or supposing some wires may be permanently fixed to the hull,leaving them there but ensuring you know what they were connected to. Small sticky paper tabs to i/d the various “ends” may be advisable.

 

THEN you can make a circuit diagram , it doesn`t have to be really clever, just clear, and an expert (Dave) may make more sense of it.

 

Getting the basics working should be easy, its all the “features” that may take a while.

 

The smoke thingies need oil or some proprietary fluid in them to make smoke, I believe.

Guys,

 

Just a quick note to say that I have completed the wiring diagram and the boat had it’s first sail at the weekend.

 

The circuit board in the S/S seem to be something to do with lighting but unsure.
