      Hi everyone,
I have decided to try and replace my motley selection of chargers with one all-singing all -dancing model if possible. I need a a charger that will charge any number of cells, say from four to ten at currents from a trickle charge up to 5amps. It would be nice to charge 6v and 12v SLA batteries as well. I gather it’s good to completely discharge occasionally too so that would be good. It would need to have Delta Peak sensing shut-off as well.
I have a book called the Complete Marine Radio Control Manual and the author mentioned the Mainlink Digiliser 2000 but the book is ten years old now so that may not be a current model- I can’t find a supplier on the web.
Has anybody had experience of a charger that would do the trick. My grasp of electrical matters is tenuous to say the least so simple operation would be a bonus.
Thanks in advance for ant help offered.

While SLA manufacturers say capacity increases after SLA batteries are used,I don’t think they recommend discharge/charging.

            Hi,
I wasn’t thinking about a discharge facility for SLA’s- only Nicads and NiMH batteries- maybe my post wasn’t as clear as it should have been. I have discovered since my first post that Mainlink supply the Digiliser 2000 so I need to do more research on that one.

              Hi
http://www.logicrc.com have a big range of chargers as do Graupner. I have a Mainlink Digiliser 2000 which has given excellent trouble free service for both my NiMh and NiCd’s, BUT it is relatively slow charging and discharging, but that is not a problem for me. It isn’t particularly cheap but is robustly made.

Thanks again Paul for solid and helpful advice. I’ve had a look at Logicrc and some of the Graupner items. I think the Mainlink one does more than I need really and so just have to choose the right one from the rest. Thanks again for your suggestions.

Hi, I recently bought the E6 charger from Britflight for a good price. Charges NiCad, NiMH, SLA and has a discharge and cycle facility. Charges at up to 5A.

                    Thanks for your reply.
I too bought a charger in the end and it does everything I need it to and more. I think there are quite a few on the market that charge all types in any quantity  and discharge and cycle. Mine is a Sigma II EQ. It wasn’t particularly cheap but it was what my local model shop had on offer ( not when I made my original post) and I like to try and support him where I can. I’ve seen shops come and go over the years and it must be even more difficult for small traders in the internet age.
                    Thanks again for the suggestion.
                    All the best,
                    Ian
