My Elco pt that I'm scratchbuilding I'm not happy with my torpedo tubes as I can't seem to get the rear end of the tube right.

        Scale wise it's (I know I screwed up with this &#128514 it's 1/28th…

So do you guys buy torpedo tubes and torpedoes or turn your own? I found that some

of my sea fishing floats are almost perfect scale and shape wise for the Mk13 torpedoes. But… I only have two and cant find the same ones now.

scale isn't overall that important, near enough will be fine.

          christmas 16 040.jpgHi Stepen,

My MTB 71 is 1/2" to the foot making her 1 /24th scale I used 3/4" diameter Ali tube from some old garden chairs salvaged rather than the tip, I have a shed full of stuff that will be useful one day 😀

also handy for the depth charges, if you don't have lathe access for balsa plugs in your torpedo tubes with a disk of thin ply, they will look fine.

          Regards Raychristmas 16 039.jpg

I built a 1/35th PT Boat from a scaled up Eezebilt plan. I bought an Italeri accessory kit which had 2 torpedoes in it, but different lengths. I used these as a guide to make 2 more out of balsa and tube. No torpedo tubes on the boat I modelled.

Thanks guys! Ray your ship is lovely so far! I will opt for the discs for depth charges, I can scalp them

out a little to give some of the dish effect that on the proper ones?

Sadly though my shed is full of crap that in all likelihood won't ever be used or is indeed usefull for anything 😞

However torpedoes I have had an "oh" moment when sorting out fishing rigs! I have sea floats thats are pretty much exactly near enough the torpedo shape! fladen Sea floats cigar shape. Medium size… I think.. 🙈 Gives near enough size and at £3 each that saves a lot of swear words 😂😂😂

Stephen. Could always try an electric drill as a lathe for small items like torpedo ends/caps?

A bit of dowel the right size for the chuck can be used, and the bit of wood you want to shape can be drilled and superglued to the dowel to mount it on the drill.
