      Hi All,

      Picked up this little piece of nostalgia yesterday from a time when model boats have proper engines 😄 I think it's a Davies Charlton Merlin ?? But they did build others, after a bit of TLC it looks okI think it needs a boat for it to go in ?I

          Most of the small Davies Charlton engines shared a similar appearance, but the cylinder heads were anodised in different colours. That only applies to the air-coxed versions, though!

          I used DC Dart, Merln and Spitfire engines in control line models back in the early 70s, there was also a 1.5cc engine in the same series but I can't remember it's name. They and some bigger engines (DC Rapier, 3.5cc from memory) but I never actually saw one in use.

            The 1.5cc was the Sabre. The 3.5cc was the Manxmam, Rapier was 2.5cc. There was also the Bambi 0.15cc Then two glows, the Bantam & the Wasp both 0.8cc

            The Dart was 0.5cc, the Merlin & Super Merlin 0.75cc, Spitfire 1cc.

            Never actually seen anything bigger than the Sabre.

              Hi All,

              The wrap round exhaust collector tube I think was always rather hit and miss !! I preferred PAW's they had a proper collectors and some have proper stub, I used to have a 1.5cc PAW airscrew driven boat with single channel radio, trying to catch it was fun as it didn't have a throttle 😄😯 I can still smell the ether!!
