      Just for information.

I make a lot of use of an aluminium mitre box together with razor saws for cutting out various bits and pieces for my builds. Over the years, the one I have got has become a bit chewed up from occasionally using a hacksaw (my bad!) so I thought the time had come to replace it.

A look online came up with Excel mitre boxes which, on first glance looked just like mine. Prices ranged from around £6 on Amazon to around £20+ postage from some modelling retailers. OK, Amazon it is then – but! A closer look showed that these Excel boxes appeared to be of much lighter construction and thinner material that the one I have although the design and size is the same. The aluminium extrusion was clearly much lighter. Most were made in China.

It then occurred to me to search on Expo and a lot of similar boxes to mine came up with the sturdier construction. These were priced at around £7.50 so I have ordered one in the hope that the  illustration in the advert shows the actual item! I did do a further check as shipping costs can vary considerably between suppliers for the same items but I have paid £12 delivered which is OK if it is the same as the one I have.

I guess it will last until Colin buys one then it will be 630! 🙂

I’ve become a bit lazy with my woodwork nowadays.  I have a Proxxon KS230 circular saw and purchased a spare adjustable square for it and set that one to 45 degrees.  It does give beautiful square polished cuts and changing over the square means I can also cut 45 degrees in seconds.

Well, my Mitre Box arrived today and it was the right version so I’m happy with that.

After all, Bishops and Mitres go naturally together…..
