Hi everyone i have just bought what i think is a Vosper fire boat to restore but i'm unsure what its scale is, can anyone help?

It's 36 to 38 inches long and 11 inch at its widest point. Any help would be really helpful.

Sorry forgot to mention you will find pictures of the boat at the end of my photo album.

          Hello Penfold

The boat is a Areokits model of a Vosper Mk2 fire/rescue boat, the full size version measured 46ft.

              Hello again

The scale of the 3ft model is 1:16. there is lot of info about these models on the interweb just google Areokits RAF Crash Tender.

Will you be posting photos of the refit?

              Paul

                    Morning Penfold an Paul.

If the original is 46ft LOA and the model is 36.8inch LOA then the scale is 1:15!!

                    46ft = 552inch divided by 15 = 36.8 ….. QED!

Hope you do something about the colour scheme

                    Regards,

                    Robin

                      Hello Robin

I agree that the true scale is 1:15 but AeroKits sold the model at 1:16 because it was an easily recognisable and workable scale.

I will be doing the fire boat version mainly because i didn't realise there were versions!! I want to restore to the condition it should have been.

                                Hi Penfold,

You will find some good historical pics of No.93 at:

                                http://www.vintagemodelworks.co.uk/?page_id=18.

Also some colour shots of a model on this page. AFAIK tender No. 94 differs mainly in having two very large sections of suction hose in the aft cockpit. BTW, please ignore the colour scheme you might find on the Internet where the wheelhouse and engine room sides are grey with garish white window frames – that is just NOT right!

If you wish I could send you some poics of a friends boat (NO. 93 48 inch model). He went to great lengths to make sure his model was detail correct. Powered by a brushless motor this model almost takes off at full RPM!

                                Regards,

                                Robin

There you go – all in one neat package!!! Some great pics, hints and tips too! How I wish I still had the two Aerokit CRTs I built in Kenya and had to leave behind when I left in 1962 In my humble opinion this boat has THE best planing hull of all the many models I've built.
