Hi Eddie,

My oldest grandson George is just 14 and we are mates he even comes boating sometimes, but he has discovered "Girls" which is good because he is not so interested in the B Xbox If you find a model of something he's keen on he will have a go at modelling ( Current passion is Mk1 VW Golfs ) made a good job of the plastic kit.

Fullsize gliding tomorrow, hope it stays fine.

How's Cossack progressing??

Hi Brian,

Yes, we thought enlarged to 1/96th scale allows us to use commercial etched brass fittings, and makes her 48" long and as I all ready have H M S Diamond at that scale and working my way to H M S Belfast and the Aircraft Carrier H M S Victorious 😀

Hi Roger,

Victorious was 740 ft long which equates to 7' 7" at 1 /96th scale so I need a longer car 😀

Building a Walrus for Belfast for fun at the moment , Belfast will be 6' 4" after Cossack I hope.

Hi. Ray, I am just finishing the planking on my Cossack, between replacing the curtain track in my bedroom and some gardening plus other jobs that crop up from time to time.

I have just changed my Mocha for a Vauxhall combo life, 4'8" wide 5' 8" long and 7' diaganally with the third row seats removed and the second row folded down and with plenty of headroom.

But still not big enough for you Victorious.

Been doing some planing and sanding today she is beginning to look ship shape now 😀 David razor plane, Permagrit block and fine glass paper most useful.

We wouldn't think of buying a boat wood we ? And miss all the joys of construction 😀

I can't imagine fitting out a grp hull and having the same satisfaction as a scratch build, but every one to their own !

Hi.All, had a problem this morning, I sanded through the hull bottom at the bow!

But it was soon fixed with a couple of pieces shaped to fit inside the hull, and then off to Dunelm for a coffee and bacon bap while the glue dried.

Finished sanding the rest of the hull using the hull profiles to get the right shape, I hope,

It's ready for some filler now were the planks are not quite aligned with each other.

As you say Ray very satisfying building from scratch, even with a vacuum cleaner full of balsa wood dust.

These things happen 😀 I've used a fair bit of filler on mine, good tip from you regarding Inwoods at Huntingdon popped in today on my way back from site I'm involved with at Holbeach Lincs, only 3 1/2 hours from Maidstone 😀

Buying Depron sheet for my cat superstructure,

Are you pressing on with the deck ? I'm going to buy the motors and shafts this weekend to get them installed while I have good access prior to putting the lid on it.

Hi. Ray, a good excuse for a break from driving, do you do the the trip in one day or two?

I have a friend at Boston and he knows Holbeach well.

I will be getting my motors and prop shafts next week, are you going to fit water proof ones or ordinary ones?

As you suggest it will be easier to fit them at this stage, I will give the inside a coat of resin first and use some tissue on the planking, I may then coat the outside with resin and glass before I fit the shafts, but then having said that it would be better to have the deck in place before the hull is glassed, so maybe fit the shafts temporarily then the motors and fit the shafts after glassing the hull.

Hey-Ho decisions decisions.

The cat is looking good, quite different.

Hi Eddie,

There and back in the day ! Only been nicked for speeding once so far 😀 I think the Jontika standard stern tubes about £8 is what I use, only oil them no problems.

I'm going to wrap the hull in cling film and float her to establish how much ballast is needed, so I can build it into the base before I glass cloth the hull, Well that's the plan 😁

Are you still sailing barges 1st September at Herne Bay ?

Hi. Ray, that's some journey in one day, 2 1/2 hours to Broadstairsis enough for me these days.

The ballast will be inside on my boat,so will check how much and where it is needed before fitting the deck and after fitting the motors.

I am looking forward to Herne Bay, my room is booked at Broadstairs .

Hi Eddie,

Popped over to see Rob who runs the Dockyard Model Shop at Chatham and splashed out on the expensive bits, interestingly he said more & more folk building from plans these days as they are not willing to pay £300-400 for a kit of bits. Interesting but common sense 😀 I will weight all the parts for ballasting as I go along hull currently 450g.
