Hi.Ray, just found 3.5mm. and 2.5mm.o/d brass portholes on The Model Dockyard site by Amati,.£7.18 per 100.

I think the 2.5mm will be the size we need, what do you think?Although the drawing shows them at 3mm.

      Eddie.

Back in the 1960s I just drilled holes…

It is an attractive model though.

            diamond bridge & snowy.jpgHi Eddie & Roger

The port holes and eyebrows I have left over from building HMS Diamond at 1/96th scale from John Haynes are 4.49 od & 3.10 internal diameter, I have enough for the superstructue, but thinking of using sticky back black Fablon from a hole lunch for the hull as there are so many !! And from 10 ft who can tell ? Oh and cheap 😀

            Ladders & stancions also handy

Hi. All, food for thought there, thanks for your help,

Roger, my problem is I will be at the Fosse on Friday to deliver my boats and then I need to be there on Sunday to collect them,I also have my friends up from Broadstairs that weekend, so my time is not my own!

              Regards.

              Eddie.

                Hi Cossacks

Now she has her own shelf under HMS Diamond so it's easy to compare the extra displacement of Cossack non scale requiring so much ballast to achieve the correct waterline.

Hello. Just caught up with all the posts. I am still on the JIF build so Cossack is still in the pipeline 🥴 The models look to be coming along nicely. I cant believe the pace you chaps build at.
I have cleared a lot of stuff out of my workshop to make room for the boats which is a waste of time as I still do not seem to have any room!
                  Cheers.

                    Hi Brian,

I'm glad your enjoying your yacht build, there is plenty of time over the winter for the Cossack build, I think Eddie and I are both at the fittings stage, I think the next parts for me are the funnels & torpedo tubes.

I hope you re-discover your bench soon

                    Regards Ray

Hi.Ray, I have started to put a bit of paint on the foredeck, between making other bits.

                      dscf3693.jpg

The other bits are the Carley floats, not needed yet but will be there when I am ready to fit them.dscf3696.jpg

Only four need to be full proflie as the other four are stacked behind.

Funnels are also done ready for finishing fittings and paint, made in Blue Peter style from toilet roll cardboard tubes and balsa top and bottom to get the profile.

                        Hi Eddie,

Your Cossack is coming on a storm I'm afraid I was carried away with my Mini Mist 15" version, but she is nearly finished now as below. (Don't ask how much the stancions cost) !!!

That's my method of producing the portholes sticky backed black Fablon and a hole punch, will use on Cossack

Strange I've been experimenting with the Carley Floats, I picked up some 1/4" diameter soft rubber with a wire core from the garden centre for tying up plants only £5.00 so I thought it would be worth a try, I'll post a photo tonight, I think your way with balsa is better

                        Regards Raymm25.jpg

Hi. Ray, that;s a very pretty little boat, I know how much stanchions cost, I had to buy some for my Tug,but when you have spent so much time and effort in producing a fine model like that a few pounds is well spent.

I do like your black spots, I think I will do that on the hull of Cossack, the portholes that I bought are brass eyelets so with some 2mm. brass washers they will go into the sails for Cambria.

The Carley Floats are finished now, they just need sanding sealer and painting, then they can be put to oneside until needed.

As I have got space underneath the main funnel I am looking to fit a small 6 volt smoke generator that I have in stock, it just means having to be able to remove the deck and funnel in that area to service it.

                          Regards.

                          Eddie.

Steam up already 😀 old habits die hard !! I assume the 3 drum Babcock boilers will be driving the Parsons turbines fairly soon 😂

I will get back into Cossack soon, but diverted again onto a electric ducted fan Jet Provost 😮

                                  Hello Cosacks.

Having said I was going to join the build, I think I am now content to sit back a watch the fabulous progress of others. Military stuff has never really held much interest for me but the initial attraction was that it was different.

I am recently back into model boats after a few years in model aircraft (still am but at a much slower pace) and I have found that my real interest is in character and performance sailing yachts. This means that I am going to build Ray's Wild Duck but maybe to the Footy class. I am also going to build a Veronica but it will be called Kimberly after a barge I know very well. I am having a go at designing an RG65 and I have some sketches of an IOM own design. There are some experiments going on hulls and sails so I have got plenty on my plate.

Busy at work so doing more lurking than posting but liking very much what is going on with all these various builds.

                                  Regards to all.

Hi. Ray and Tim, yes but this steam plant is much easier, 30mil.of water in the tank switch on the battery and instant 'steam' and it's cold, but it's nice to see something coming up and out of the funnel.

The Babcock boilers are no problem, I have drawings in the book by K.N. Harris from way back, the turbines would be more of a problem.

I am finding I can only keep one plate spinning at a time these days, but your build diary is full to overflowing Tim.

The last five steamers that I built were all own design, just following on from Charles Burrell and Ruston Proctor,

Boats are something totally different to design, especially yachts, I will leave that to others, I have more than enough to cope with sailing the darn things, just ask Ray.

The IOM that I have started on is a twenty year old design and so is now outdated, but then I enjoy the build as much as the sailing, and with that boat it will be for my own enjoyment rather than racing.

                                    Regards.

                                    Eddie.

Hi Eddie/Tim & Cossack followers everywhere,

Isn't the variety of things we can build a gift ? Pretty much anything we fancy 😀 this does depend on putting a comprehensive work room or the kitchen table with tools to do the job !

Keep following the enthusiasm 😁 and let us know what your building?

(And we don't need CAA approval to float RC boats yet!)

                                                    Hi Roger,

If you find an old school Lithographic printing company they are normally let you have some used sheets, they only use them once 😀 you will find it a most useful material.

Have you started tracing the parts yet ??

                                                    Regards Ray

Hi. All, food for thought there, thanks for your help,

Roger, my problem is I will be at the Fosse on Friday to deliver my boats and then I need to be there on Sunday to collect them,I also have my friends up from Broadstairs that weekend, so my time is not my own!

                                                      Regards.

                                                      Eddie.

                                                      Hi Eddie

Went to the show today and asked about you on the stand. I left about 2.00 so probably before you got there to collect your models.

                                                      Cheers, Chris
