      Hi Brian

3/16" is ample, easier to cut the centres out early before they are insitu, good news about you enjoying the yachting, It's always different to suit the conditions The Dragon Force 65 is a pretty good boat, don't be tempted by the cheaper Graupner RG65 rather difficult to build and make go successfully I hear on the grapevine !!!

Hi ya Ray and fellow Cossackers this scan which I have put on here may help you make a simplified 4 inch gun – although it's only single barrel – it could be simply adapted for the twin barrelled version – the article comes from Model Boats magazine January 1983 – I believe (by reading part of the article) that in February 1983, there was a follow up article – which covered the double barrelled version of the gun. Until I find that issue (if I have it) I am a bit unsure – someone though may have the February issue of the magazine and be able to confirm it.

Whilst search for the article, I came across several articles in Model Boats magazines (Feb 1970) a guy has built a 1:72 HMS Cossack from the same set of plans – overall length 63 inches.

So I will carry on searching and see if I can find more information in my back issues of Model Boats mags.

Hi. All, thanks John, duly printed offsmiley it will help no end with the pictures I have posted.

My hull with a covering of glass cloth and three coats of epoxy resin, the fisrt two thinned with approx. 25% meths.

              dscf3642.jpg

The prop shafts and motors have been dry fitted but removed to put the glass and resin on,I then cut the glass away from the holes while the resin was still green.

                Good evening Cossacks,

Good work Eddie she's looking great, I used the water based resin which is nice and glossy after 6 coats it will be shame to rub it down for priming ! I' m going to fit some bilge strakes/keels as your pictures show.

Good day at Headcorn aerodrome model show today, did some practice with Veronica for next Sundays finals at Bluewater 😀yes

                Richard C said I was cheating 😂

The hull with it's fisrt coat of primer filler sanded down showing the umps, and ollers that will need more filler primer and finally filler to get a smooth finish.

The electrics/ electronics connected and tested ready for fitting.

                      Hi Eddie,

Looking good, you may have to do some carving to get the motors in low enough, I did but it depends on the angle of your stern tubes 😊 see you on Sunday for the racing at Bluewater 😄

Hi. Ray, yes looking forward to Sunday again, weather should be warm but not sure about wind strength.

The motors have already been in place, as you say had to cut into the bottom side planks to fit them but all seems fine.

Guys. My start is a bit delayed. For the last two Wednesday afternoons I have been going to Batley -Wilton park and enjoying having a go at rc sailing. I enjoyed it so much I have nearly finished a JIF 65 so that I can join in the fun rather than borrowing a spare boat – which I am always nervous about borrowing.

I have also ordered a DF65 yacht which seem to be pretty well known about. I will make a start when I have the JIF on the water. 😀

My start is getting imminent too, I'm going to have a go at building with mainly 1/4" ply frames and a double skin of 1/16" ply, at least for the middle bit, it'll be different surprise and interesting!

                                Hi Roger,

I think the bottom planks from ply laminated would work, but I think above that the key is keeping her light if you want to float up the right way 1/16" ply sides x 2 will be torpedo proof for sure, we will watch with interest. The advantage of the balsa base planks is being able to shape them with a razor plane after you have planked the sides.

I'm just cutting some 1/4" steel plate to build the ballast into the bilges 6-8 lbs required in before I start the superstructure.

                                Regards Ray

If I was to build a similar hull I would use liteply for the frames, but keep every thing else the same.

Good morning Cossacks, Have done a bit moreon the hull this week after a break down in broadstairs.

I found a problem with the shape of the hull at the after end when I was rubbing down the first coats of primer, that has now been fixed with a bit of filler, and she now looks ship shape.

                                      dscf3660.jpg

She now has a stand and the waterline marked and the electrics are all ready to go in, it's then into the pond to see how much ballast is required.

                                      dscf3667.jpg

That will have to wait until next week now as I have to clear the dining table ready for visiting relatives this weekend.

                                      Regards to all.

                                            That's very flashy a stainless rudder ?

I,ve traced the positions of fittings & superstucture etc & pinned the foredeck in place temporarily, I'm going to build the superstructure in situ to take account of the deck camber, which is not mentioned on the drawing. Will then take the deck off and cut the access opening and coaming/upstand.Regards

That's the stuff 😀 I have started cutting 1/4" steel plate for my ballast, my poor old Burgess bandsaw nearly had a heart ❤ attack, but it's in stock so a cheap otion. The front section of the rear deck will be fixed as the mast and forward funnel are a big feature. Then a large access hatch to the motors & couplings. Regards Rayimg_20190930_164941.jpg
