It must be a confusing business not being told what the next dance is going to be ?? Rather like Ashley's build threads

I can't actually imagine dancing whilst sober !!

You run a ballroom class? A man of many and varied talents!

Yes, I was going to say exactly the same thing myself!

Model maker extrodinaire, player of instrument and ballroom dancer. Any others we don't know about?

And I'm with you there Ray. When being dragged onto the dance floor at various do's I'd always say I needed another pint or two first!  smiley

I have been dancing for about 30+ years now . Ballroom, Latin, rock’n’roll, jive…mambo, paso doble.

i went along to the Thursday afternoon social ballroom class at the Hersham day centre about 5 years ago when I retired, when it was run by someone else and since then the original teacher left so I sort of inherited it!, I don’t have any formal dance qualifications, but I do have many years of experience.

I try to tell our lad that a good life skill is dancing. A 12 week course (one night a week) will have you confident to get up on the floor at dinner dances…or even at the disco. There are never enough men at dance classes. A good place to pull a bird meet a nice young lady…

            I don’t watch “Strictly”..it’s not dancing.

Had booster jab yesterday, feel like sh*t today. Shivering/temp last night. Arm aching.

no boating for me I’m afraid. Ashley

I had that with the first one but not the next two. Hopefully you'll be back to fighting fit tomorrow but you might not feel up to full strength then either.

I love the comment re, dance classes being a good place to meet a nice young lady… Young? As Einstein said "All things are relative!"

                  Hi Ash,

My first 2 jabs being Astra-Zeneca were fine except the sore arm, but the Pfizer booster knock me out for a day !!

Ray, that’s what I am experiencing. The first two were ok.

Richard. Everyone is different! The Mrs threw up all night with the first one. My mum (91) had no effects from all three.

its a bit grey out so probably didn’t miss much at the pond. I had planned to take the disco boat, the lights of which would have looked good on a grey slightly foggy pond.

Mrs B and I had 2 AZ followed by Pfizer with no ill effects. Eldest daughter had 2 AZ followds by Moderna and felt quite ill for three days but then bounced back.

Just seems to depend on the individual.

Maybe the fact you had just had Covid affected things Ashley.

Ashley, like Ray, my first 2 were AZ with a Phizer booster + flu jab (wife the same) knocked us both out for 2 days ( wife was actually vomiting), neither of us had any symptoms prior to that since the start of this whole so called "PANDEMIC".

However, my brother in law, despite being "double jabbed", nearly died from it, so my take is, ———- even the "so called" EXPERTS have not got a bloody clue.

Unfortunately everyone’s body is different. When I had Covid before Christmas I was thankful that I had had the two jabs. Gasping for air as you have respiratory problems is not something I would ever want to face.

our doctor says that most of the people who are in hospital at the minute are people who have nOT been jabbed.

Perhaps one way to look at it Kev would be that if he wasn't double jabbed he would have died?

By all means compare experiences but this is not the place for expressing views on the pandemic generally. These issues are widely discussed elsewhere and you can evaluate the various arguments being put forward with varying degrees of accuracy!

Overall it does at the moment look as if we might anticipate a return to more or less normal model boating conditions. Let's hope that proves to be the case.

Nice mornings boating yesterday. Sunny, warm (8-10 degrees) and beautifully calm.

Gunboat and canal boats went well after some ballasting and I got a few nice snaps, however at this time of year the sun is very low and although good for some shots, you really need the sun to be high in order to light the deck properly.

No less than three rowers on the pond, an impressive sight, soon-ish to be joined by a fourth! I now have a copy of MB with the GG free plan waddles in it and am going going to use this as the mechanical basis for mine although the drive mechanism needs beefing up similar to Peters version which uses toothed belts. I am only going to have one paddle so I will need a rudder.

Unfortunately SOMEONE left my big camera switched to “on” and the battery is dead. Can’t find the blooming charge lead….I hope the battery will charge up again?. Although there is an on/off switch I would have thought there was an automatic turn-off to protect the battery from completely discharging?

When the sun is like that Ashley that is the time to try and get a little creative. One of my own favourites, apologies to those who have seen it before, was taken on a day when everyone else said it was a waste of time bringing the camera.

Ah Richard. I too have foggy day snaps. Unfortunately as you know there is a fine balance of sun and too much sun. The shadows being cast were very long due to the low sun angle and these obscured half the deck on the gunboat. Coupled with the Matt black sides that looked very shiny on the outside and jet black on the inside…

However I got some ice low-level waterline type views.

With some of my paler colour hats it has taken months to get-the right lighting.

Wow. 2 weeks has passed by without a single utterance from yours truly! No boating last week due to rain, although it did brighten up later it was too late to park at the park.

i am playing with my Moana dolly at the moment and it’s nice to have something “on the go” again.

Looking better for boating today although still grey at the moment (0815).

My brother is over from Oz, but he went to Manchester with a mate fri/sat and got back late and although he wanted to see Sting and Fishy and the Barbies I am not sure he will be up and over the park so may take some sensible boats?

Dry this morning but JOLLY nippy with a strong breeze.

My brother came down, so I had the disco, Barbie, Tup and Ferry.

Have some Ronseal Mahogany coloured varnish for Moana’s boat but you need a lot of coats to get it nice and dark! Currently 5 I think..getting there.

Trevors Jessie rower had a hard time in the wind, being light and relatively low powered, and he was unable to keep it off the far bank so had a short walk to retrieve (30 seconds).

                                                    Moana is coming on nicely.

gave up trying to bend 6mm bamboo dowelling, so laminated the mast (it’s a funny shape) and outrigger supports instead.

All the colours on the boat look just like the illustration I am using: (Mahogany, Light oak and dark brown float) and handily the light oak looks very yellow on the bamboo and ply.

Will it work though?? I hope so.

Spent half of yesterday drilling holes in Moanas boat and gluing on flowers!

Two types of flowers…one lot are in fact beads on a flat green ribbon, and the others are daisy buttons.

I was worried about gluing the daisies on as they are a soft PVC material, and I had thought that I would splodge Araldite epoxy glue in the sewing hole at the rear of the buttons and around the drilled hole so the glue would “sew” the button by virtue of going in the sewing hole and on the wood, but a quick test on one button and some varnished scrap wood showed me that the daisies glued wonderfully with just superglue.

Overall a quick easy job once I got down to it, and not the horrid difficult task I had thought…like so many things I suppose! The fiddliest part was threading the beads on the ribbon in the right order.

Ditto the sail, having glued the cloth together indifferently, a quick go-over with the steam iron sorted it out a treat…good stuff, PVA.
