      Hi Richard,

Green was the only Humbrol enamal I had plenty of !!  Very expensive price at the Hornby visitors centre in Margate, but I like it 🙂

My club mates don’t seem phased by the price £££ you can’t take it with you 🙁 🙂

      Regards Ray

          Hi All,

I’m not sure how many all is these days 🙂 (must be at least a dozen? )DSCF2893DSCF2895

          But who really cares !!

Progress before my week away brought the TID to the side decks and knuckle complete stage which is quite a feature of the design, the deck projects past the sides by 5/16″ and the knuckle/rubbing strip is fitted under is with 1/4″ balsa scribed to the hull shape, next part is the daunting part the bulwarks and capping on top !!

          Regards Ray

Hi Ray, your opening comment made me smile :).

To be fair, for once we seem to have some good weather and I suspect many are busy with outdoor projects. I know I am at the moment.

Your tug’s progressing nicely.  I’m looking forward to the ‘machinery’ being installed.

            Len. 🙂

Even with your holidays it’s taking shape very quickly. As usual!

                Will be a cracking model.

                  Thanks Chris,

Yes so many holidays !! still we are only here once better make the most of it 🙂

The worst part of the build are the bulwarks and capping rail as that’s the part everyone will see quite a laborious process supergluing the uprights to the deck and templating the 1/64″ ply before cutting seems to be going ok so far but a slow process !! racing DF65 yesterday, at my daughters for a BBQ today , It’s all go 🙂

                      Hi All,

Thr TID tug is progressing now at a pace with the superstructure from mainly 1/16″ ply 🙂

Taking shape nicely.  Just a suggestion, I would get the paint on the hull and fit the plant with all the electrics.  Then take the model out and test it on the water.  This will give you the opportunity to see how everything works, whether you have all the access you need for maintenance and operation, filling, emptying etc..  Also whether performance and manoeuvrability is what you expect or whether anything needs modifying.  Then, if anything requires adjusting or modifying, you can do it before the deck and superstructure get too advanced.

This is the second sea trials, the first one was without any decks on at all.

                        15-05-05-03Witton ParkBenAin78

As a result of that sea trial I decided to fit an additional valve in the steam supply line to the engine to an overboard line through a hull penetration so I could blow through the condensate rather than the first slug of condensate coming out of the engine and spraying all over the inside of the model.

                          Thanks Richard,

I will give her a go without the superstructure fitted at some stage, but I have started detailing the deck and cutting all the holes in the bulwarks , mooring post’s etc before I prime the whole lot 🙂

I’m going to get a gas burner for her, Clevenden Steam has been suggested by my clubmate friend Geoff Dixon whoL3otw runs incredible steam powered warships, we will get there in the end but maybe later this year, I’m enjoying it so far 🙂

I’ve just finished the Lysander article/design for Lindsey thought the crew was quite apt ??

Ray, for a burner check out Clevedon Steam, ( you were close!) Miniature Steam Models and Forest Classics.  All do a range of burners.  It might be down to the best fit in your boiler.

                              Hi All,

After a lovely weekend near Southwold in Suffolk , I’m back on the tug with renewed vigour 🙂

I was going to keep her simple, but as I won’t be building another tug for a while I have decided to do a proper job ! well as good as I can without buying anything !!
