That`s a great simple idea for generating the bend

I thought of your Skylark, when posting the idea too

Time is of the essence now Kimmo!

Did you know, that when posting a photograph, you can change the size of the picture by right clicking and putting the curser on one of the tabs, the picture can be altered?

I discovered this amazing feature this morning, when posting a picture and found it was only an icon!

          Bob and all,

I've recently had a computer associated moment too, coincidence?

I'm making a set of cotton sails for the tea clipper Thermopylae, at 1/96 scale. My method is to draw the sails on the computer (simple draw mode in NeoOffice) and then print onto a paper backed cotton cloth known and sold as "lawn cotton."

I was having some trouble getting the colours correct, for me, as the printer produced printouts slightly paler colours and more faint than I wanted. I've always used the printer settings as standard Epsom settings.

The Eureka moment, when in frustration after several poor runs, I used a drop down menu that offered "colour matching." In for a penny, clicked it and printed. Resulting print out was exactly as per screen image!!!

Now all you experts will say "of course, we knew that. Why didn't you ask?" Well, I'm happy now and quite happy to share this finding with you all.

          Kimmo

            Hello Kimmo

You've either got a giant plotter or you're building a little static?

Can't understand what you are printing in colour?

            Post a picture please?

            Bob

              Hi Bob,

I'm printing sails at 1/96 scale direct onto cotton cloth using a standard inkjet printer. I then seal the sail edges with dilute PVA, then cut out, fold a "tab" or "hem" over a scale rope around the outer edge, tying loops at the corners for tying to the ship.

This is a job at the request of an ageing gentleman who wants to replace what are an awful set of vacuum formed plastic sails that came with the kit, a plastic kit at that! I was asked could it be done, so am doing it for him.

I've opened a new thread, period scale sails, and posted some pictures there and in a new album as well.

              Kimmo

Not so much a Eureka moment, just something I've been using for a good few years now. I'm hopeless at drawing so a description will have to do. Imagine trying to join two pices of ply or plastic to make a "T" shape – clamp the two pieces together in the shape you want and then run a small fillet of Bicarbonate of Soda along each join edge then trickle thin Cyano along the fillet. the Cyano reacts with to Bicarb (exothermic reaction I'm told!) so a bit of heat is generated but the join that results is like concrete. I once used this method to create an engine mount for .40 motor in an aerobatic plane and even when it crashed (pilot error) the plane shattered but the engine mount was untouched.

BTW the fumes are a bit strong when it's doing its thing.

The Eureka Moments thread has been referred to quite a few time lately and to some people, the thread is difficult to locate

So here it is, for easy reference

                  More later

                          Hi Ship Mates

My Eureka moment was after spending hours on making motor mounts for a boat.

I sat down had a few beers and it dawn on me !!!

A disc with a number of holes to suit different motors and a 4mm hole for the shaft(90% of shafts are this now days)

bolt this onto a length of shaft and the motor mount.

This makes it easier to setup the mount without the motor being in the way.

I have use it on one boat and on another boat I used it a flex drive setup, but, I had to add a bit of heat shrink tubing to fill a bit of a gap.

I hope members post their Eureka Moments so we can all learn.

This post maybe our go to post for HELP!!!!

Just a simple idea for rejuvenating tired sanding blocks

Get the on the Linisher…….Simple, but a nice crisp edged block is a treat to work with

                            Bob

                            Blimey!……It`s disappeared yet again!

                            Don`t go away

                            Sorted…….It wasn`t a JPEG

                              Hi All

I bought some new wood blades for my Makita jigsaw( the 10S ones), these have a double cut blade.

They cut 2 and 3mm plywood like planner blade very nice.

I next cut some Perspex( a scrap piece first) and next cut out a one piece windscreen for my Sea Commander.

                              EUREKA !!!

My Eureka moment was trying out nylon stockings as a covering for the Glynn Guest MTB I was building. instead of tissue or glass cloth. No wrinkles, one piece shrink wrap, a coat of epoxy finishing resin…….beautiful… I don't use anything else now. (If I can help it)
