      Hi Dave,

Did Richard mention why he was selling it 😀😀😀😀😀😀

      Unless it's fitted with a motor ??

Ben Ainsley heard I'm developing a foiling Thames Sailing barge , he is asking for tips for the America's Cup 👍⛵⛵

        Hi Ray

Richard was selling on behalf of someone

Trouble was I bought it in February

It's because Richard came across on the ferry that I've got it now.

Don't forget Ben sails round my back garden

        Ive been taking notes

          Hi Dave,

If you want her to go fast I would review those very wide keels ? Have a look at my Giralda build earlier on this thread, narrow & deeper if you want to give me some competition 😀

              Hi All,

Tonight we are making the main mast from a nice straight piece of 1/2" X 1 /2" pine in the lathe with the ever handy self centering 4 jaw chuck, I took the corners off with a block plane and then turned round with Hermes P120 paper, came out well and round with the square foot 😀👍👍👍

I did have to take the tailstock off to get the length on the Super 7

                Hi all,

this is my version making yard for Caprice gundalow -90 cm long((cca 35" , 1,8 cm dia. In the middle of the yard is a spruce beam 10×10 mm, on the sides are glued beams 5×5 mm. One end is fixed in the jaw of the electric drill, the other end in the auxiliary jaw of the old drill. I had to grind both ends of the yard so that I could clamp them in the jaws of the ( electric) drills.
For machining, I first used a coarse rasp, then continued with coarse sandpaper nr 60,glued to a plywood strip. I finished gradually with finer sandpaper. The narrower end should have a smaller diameter (6 mm). When grinding, however, the boom vibrated a lot, so I preferred to finish grinding at a diameter of 8 mm
As the boom is flexible, I had to support it in the middle when sanding (I used an old leather glove). I then soaked the whole and soaked it in diluted epoxy..

                greetings

                Tom

                        Hi All,

I made a small discovery today, I thought wrongly as it happens that it was only our model barges that used extensions to the rudder to sail, but this sketch is contained in Sailorman a 1933 book by E G Martin in which he recalls his experiences as mate of the Vigilant, finding this book made my day 😀😎👍

I did not expect such a design possibility, despite having at home a few books about tsb.

Good to see your back 👍

This the only photo I have of her sailing, but she is laid up at Maldon in a mud berth and in grey primer last time I saw her a month ago minus her rig, as she is steel construction I guess she is safe for the future.

                                        img_3097.jpgHi Ray

We also have a very real winter with snow, and we expect frosts around – 20 ° C .

We haven't been used to such a winter in recent years.

Here are currently a number of new posts on FB. Many modelers are no longer looking for topics on traditional forums, and go straight to Facebook.
I'm currently trying to finish the wreck of a small electric motor boat I got from an acquaintance.
I'm thinking of a suitable superstructure to make. I had to buy a new ESC and servos.

Spring is perhaps behind the door ..although Punxsutawney Phil foretold a longer winter..

Mexico . It's a country ballad where everyone went to Mexico, the sheriff only catches the last man who sings it ..

The condition here on our chat reminded me a little of this song

                                        Greetings

                                        Tom

Hi Ray , I'm John and new to the this Posting lark , but have been a model boat dabbler for many years .

I'm trying to contact you as you appear to have alot of knowledge in this subject.

I started scratch building a Thames Barge last year , and its coming on , but not anywhere as skilfully/professionally as most of the others I see on here ! I'm not up to their standards.

My query is , I've stored lots of pictures off the internet to help me with winches, etc but can't find any real close ups of how any of the rigging is for example secured at the top of the masts, – and at the bottom , and vangs ??? ….not sure about them at all , – also the multiple wheeled metal block at the bow , etc. where does it all go to , and how is it fixed ?

I've never got to see a real Thames Barge and it looks unlikely in the near future, so any close up pictures of how things are rigged , fixed, secured would really help if you have any , (I tried to get on the Facebook link you mentioned elsewhere but don't have an account and there's a conflict over my email address when I tried to create one) Hey Ho , Maybe fix that later.

I'd be glad of any help or advice, and apologise if I have posted this in the wrong place,

                                          Thanks

                                          John

                                            Hello John,

Welcome to the forum, If you could let us know what type of barge and size/scale your building that would be a good start and where your based ? there are quite a lot of good photos posted on this thread if you go back to the beginniing for both wooden built barges and a couple of GRP hull fit outs. My photo album may also be of use. Eddie Lancaster a regular on here covered the building of his Veronica tsb in well detailed stages and description.

Facebook can be confusing, the old AMBO Association of Model Barge Owners site has a FB page, although the group has been shut down now officially this year, we are still hoping to meet this year and race.

If there are any specific areas where you are lacking details let me know as I have various text books with good diagrammes etc

Hi.John,as my name has been mentioned I thought I should stick my head above the parapet, a few years ago I was in exactly the same position as you are, one good place to start is Mastmans website, he produces a lot of fittings for TSB,s and as you get to the various problems as Ray says just ask.

                                              Regards. Eddie.

                                                  Hi John,

Thanks for you PM message, I think this drawings from a book I have which was written in 1933 shows the pulley's on the stem for raising and lowering the rig, and is called the Stay Fall.

The vang is the line which controls the amount the sprit can move out, very handy when running with the wind and can be controlled by it's own winch/servo to let the sprit right out for best performance

                                                  Regards Raystay fall.jpg
