      Hi Eddie,

nice photos indeed! We have nearly winter back here 0°c – +5°C and snow at hilltops… and cold rain here in valley.

Now I'm finishing the flying jib control with a servo (semaphore jib). Basically, I could put the model on the water. But I still have to test the control first.
I also managed to fix my Lulonga paddle steamer and finish the rigging for my little Footy class, which is designed for a very weak wind. now I'm waiting for warmer weather …

      BRRRRR

      greetings

      Tom

Hi.Tom,nice to hear from you again, you must have a very long winter which means a short sailing season.

I am with friends about 150 miles south of home, but it is warmer much further north at the momentfrown.

I have had two days sailing so far with at least three more planned.

        Best wishes.

        Eddie.

today I struggled with installing and reviving the receiver in the model.
But it worked at home … so maybe tomorrow …

                Hello Tom,

Well done for Gusty Cat she looks good and fast 😀 are you using nylon sail material ? We have to use cotton here for the racing. This weekend is AMBO racing in my home town of Maidstone on Sunday, although it clashes with the F1 Grand Prix at Monaco, I'll be watching it later.Regards

The fin looks in the right place to me.

                Regards Ray

Hi. Tom, It's very colourful, should look good on the water.

I would have liked to have been with you this Sunday Ray, but we have our Mayhem weekend at Wicksteed Park.

                  Regards.

                    Hi Eddie,

oh yes, she is too colourfull. The foresail will be yellow too..I am searching for somewhat better material,

This blue-violet foresail is proper material (from my umbrella) but with improper colour…

                    Tom

                      Hi Ray,

sorely I have no proper thin cotton at present . The red brown sails are made from old parachute, badly held shape and wrinkled – it can't be ironed..

the yellow jib is made from ripstop (or polyester)material — i am not sure ,I only got leftovers ,I still have a piece of white fabric .I will decide what to do after the trials on big water…

                      greetings

                      Tom

Hi Eddie, looks like a good time had by all smiley I'm feeling a bit jealous!

Talking about barges did either you (or anyone building from Sariks' plans and kit) have any issues with frame 3? I laid out the frames against the plan and frame 3 does not fit to the drawing, frame 5 was also looking a bit rough but nothing a bit of fettling won't cure.

Also have either of you done an additional items list? That is what is required in the way of deadeyes, pulley blocks etc.? Just to save me trying to add it all up. As I'm not planning to race it I shall go for the big rig initaly and then the working rig. See any issues there?

I'm hoping to get to the tall ships at Gloucester docks tomorrow or Monday, I'll post some pics if SWIMBO lets me out to play. laugh

                            Bye for now

                              Hi Roger,

The early ply packs had errors , but I assumed these were rectified, the original drawing had the chine in the wrong place, this is documented on Geoff Sleath's Veronica build thread, back a few years now. Do you have a Mastman aka Dave Watts catalogue ? He does most of the barge fittings etc. I will be seeing him today most likely.

Look up Spritsail barge Veronica it was 2014 thread here.

Regards Ray (looks breezy happy days)

Just had to Google swimbo 😀 good one !

Good racing today, 5 races for each class, good breeze for some close racing, Richard Chesney doing well with a Veronica, which is good as it's his design 😀 my little Gertrude 30" had it all her own way today in all but one race, where her driver made a badly positioned start 😮 i

You make me shudder to look at the beautiful detail you have put into your barge.

I have got the hull built without any trouble but the sails and blocks and all that tiny cordage you seem to have available in UK has me blanching at the thought of finding that gear here in Australia.

I now have my two barge hulls sitting on the bench gathering dust in my workshop. (both James Piper).

I have gone back to scratch building Mustangs and now in the middle of a scratchbuilt mosquito.

Hi. Nick, yes we are lucky in having so many different suppliers of materials, but the deadeyes and mahogany blocks are home made and I have made some of the short lengths of chain but the scale rope is all bought in. the sails are made from cotton bed sheets.

I do hope you can overcome your supply difficulties and finish your barges.

                                              Hi All

For all you Veronica Fans out there, here is Dave (Mastman) Watts's GRP Veronica with the big racing rig on Sunday,

He did struggle slightly as the wind increased during the day with over powering and massive weather helm in the gusts!!

As it's in the Bowsprit class, I didn't get a chance to see how it compares with my Staysail Veronica.

Richard Chesney has acquired another Peter Simmonds Veronica like mine and did really well winning races on Sunday and has got me worried to the point where I may have to install a secret motor to keep up !!!veronica big rig may 19.jpg

How can you acquire another Peter Simmonds Veronica, give the new boy on IOW a chance. LOL

Dave (Mastman) I love the look of your Bowsprit

I think it's my next project once I've build my Staysail Veronica

Regards Dave(Peter Simmonds friend on IOW)

                                                  Hi Dave,

We met at Bluewater 😀 yes this barge racing is fast turning into a one design racing class !! Still I gather from Richard the James Piper was the barge to have a few years ago and the fastest.

                                                  Regards Ray

                                                    Hi Ray

Must admit Peter does build a great boat.

Maybe Dave Watts can take up the challenge.

I must admit I'm only following in the shadows of greater men at the moment. Hope to meet again soon either Maldon or Silvermere

                                                    Regards Dave

                                                      Hi Nick,

Try Spotlite for your rigging, Ive found they have quite a good selection of Yarns, different thickness's of string to make cordage, Plenty of material for sailmaking with as well. I even bought a sowing machine there to make my sails.

                                                      Andy
