Ron. I have an external hard drive, and the Mrs has one as well (thoughtfully purchased by yours truly) and all my stuff gets backed up on both drives. Cant be too careful, these computers, dodgy things.

Graham,. That bench is much too tidy for my liking…where are all the bits and bobs??

        Hi Ron,

You and Ashley aren't wrong, especially with a little speedboat like this. I doubt I'll use reverse very often but will have it anyway 'because I can'. I'll go ZTW with the ESC, although I'm sure the HK Engel jobs are good.

Good news regarding the computer. Glad it's sorted. Personally, I hate the things and am always very polite with the I.T. folk at MTM in case I need a favour… Which I often do.

I reckon you're probably looking forward to the skinning far more than me! Shouldn't be long now.

        Regards

        Graham

I can't help myself Ashley. Must try to be more messy. I'll see what I can do in the next few shots wink

Graham, with today's brushless motors you can get IC power and reverse too – what's not to like. I had a look around the Vintage Model Boat stand at Warwick and it is a real exercise in updated nostalgia.

These days I just build scale boats that trundle around but i do admire Dave Milbourn's Fairey Huntress, a real classic. There is a full size one on display in Portsmouth Dockyard's No 4 Boathouse.

Re hard drives, I agree with Ashley.; Back up your PC and back up your backups and do it on a regular basis. And then store the backups so if your house burns down at least one is likely to survive. Paranoid – Moi?

I'm up there tomorrow Colin so I'll take a look at that VMBC stand. I have to say, I'm a sucker for nostalgia. Better leave my wallet at home.

Dave's Huntress? Agreed. It's an item of great loveliness.

Slow progress but it is, at least, progress! Just been cutting card hull skin templates. If the skins fit like the templates I'll be a very happy chap. Hmm…

That front frame has had a fair old bit of fettling done, Graham. It looks to be about 1/8" too short. Why not save up details of all such minor errors and let SLEC know? It's a matter of a few minutes to amend the CNC file. The model is coming on nicely.

Good spot Dave, yes it is a bit short. I spoke to Ian at Warwick about it briefly and did mention at the time that I'd make a list of anything I found. To be honest, that's about the only slight glitch so far.

Well, fortunately the bottom skins fitted almost as well as the templates so, on the whole, I'm pretty pleased. A very satisfying build so far. More soon smiley

It is oddly refreshing watching the progress of this build being reported not only in our safe little corner of the interweb but also in the full glare of public scrutiny on facebook, where commentary might not be so forgiving.

As a species model boaters are a very cautious bunch and few are brave enough to undertake a blow by blow build, in fact I think that Bob Abell is the only other to have risked the 'slings and arrows' in such an heroic way.

You are to be congratulated for taking such a bold move and hopefully your strategy will inspire more people to take up motorboating.

That's very nice of you to say Paul. So far no-one has tried to lynch me on FB, although they may just be lying in wait! I'm a great believer in a warts 'n' all account of a build because it can be a great leveller, particularly for anyone who might be teetering on the brink of having a go. If it does actually inspire someone to stick some wood together than that's bloody great in my book.

                                                      Morning all,

I too read Dave Ms link and can see why some people would be upset by adverse comments on a build post. I think there are many boaters out there who are fine builders but refrain from posting their efforts to the world as they somehow feel that they themselves are average and their efforts are of no interest. This is so far from the truth, as Graham points out that despite his years as an Aeromodeller 'cock- ups, sometimes appear during a build, and Warts and All articles are a great learning curve for us all, We all learn by our, and others, mistakes, and I am happy to report them in my Model Boats build articles.

Designing projects and working out lesson plans for exam level students at 'O' and 'A' level technology, which invariably means making an example for them is a great leveler to teachers. Expectations of their abilities are high but rarely come up to the standards we expect as their teachers. But, and this should always be remembered, we are all different and anyone who builds and publishes his/her efforts has built to the best of their ability and condemnation from someone who has never built one is a nasty and undermining attitude that we can do without.

I don't post pictures on this or other sites because I'm to stupid to work out how to resize my 6mb photos, but I will send them to Paul or now Graham to see what they think. Of course there are cock-ups in them, We're only human after all, but I will add my own e.mail to answer any problems and I'm glad to learn from them.

I love Dave Ms disclaimer….'Remember I have already built two of these, (So zip it maybe?) ….

The Sea Breeze is looking lovely Graham….very neatly done and definately a grade B plus in my register!!!
