Excellent job gentlemen. I am plotting my course to the Just Giving site and will be donating.

It has been been most interesting and fun watching this project develop.

      Thanks for sharing with us

        Hello Dave

Thank you for the kind words and the superb donation.

I have really enjoyed this project but I couldn't have done it without Bobs building ability and his unwavering belief in my design skills, I would also have been stuck without Dave M and his expert electronics advice & assistance with some of the tricky parts of the CAD work.

I am looking forward to doing the next project but I don't know what it will be yet.

          Hello Paul,

It has been a pleasure in more ways than one. Not only have we been able to see the development, we have seen great modellers at work. If that doesn't inspire people to have a go then nothing will.

By the way, may I remind those who do donate and pay tax make sure they tick the boxes to allow the charity receive some extra cash through the gift aid scheme. As the famous (or is that infamous?) supermarket says "every little helps"

          Cheers

Congratulations to Dave P on being the first member to contribute to this very excellent charitable cause!

Please post pictures of your build as you progress…..Any problem , just ask, and we'll coming running!

            That applies to everyone…btw

                Dear All

Everything has been checked and approved by Jane and the first three sets have already been emailed to some very generous donators.

A word of caution…the entire PDF package amounts to 12MB so if anyone has download limits on their email just let me know and I will split the pack into two emails.

I am now on tenterhooks awaiting the reviews.

To get your copy simply visit http://www.justgiving.com/Model-Boat-Fundraiser-ParkinsonsUK and make a donation, then send me an email to [email protected] with confirmation of which email address you would like the plans sending.

I have received my plan set thanks. I will now peruse them while supping an ale my good lady has just placed beside me.

                    Shop floor to Drawing office

Drawings received on behalf of my twin brother

It's probably a good idea that I should be one of the first members to start the ball rolling, as I can spot anything that needs further explanation……..If something should crop up

I shall also keep the thread in the limelight……..Hence this post!

So come on you chaps, get cracking and post plenty of pictures

                        Hello Dave

How will you change the scale at the printing stage?

If it works out ok, let us know how you have done it

                          Print room to Drawing office

The plans are in the PDF format and I am unfamiliar with this system

The original plans were in JPEG format and printed normally

I can read the PDF stuff by selecting a converter form quite a long list……..Which system do I go for, please?

The Ipad can read the plans quite easily, but don`t have a printer connected

                            Good morning Bob,

The pdf reader I use allows direct printing. I don't use MS windows but would imagine you can do the same with say the Adobe pdf reading software which is a free download from the Adobe web site.

As to reducing scale I can either print the plans full scale then reduce them via my scanner or better still use the original CAD drawings in my CAD program to reduce the scale before printing, if the drawing office will kindly let me have a copy, hint, hint.

                            wink

                            Cheers

                            Dave

Something I forgot to say was jpeg and pdf etc compress the files so if you are converting them you may find the quality of the print out suffer.

                                  Bob

As usual you have identified a critical detail that I forgot to explain.

Its not complicated but the explanation might be long winded.

I use PDF simply because this format keeps the design intact during download which means the drawings don't change scale during transfer or printing, in essence PDF is a closed system that can't be affected by other software whereas JPEG drawings have to be opened in another programme.

JPEG drawings are usually opened using drawing or word processer software and this where the problems associated to changes of scale usually occur, the changes might be minimal but when added together across 30+ drawings the potential for error becomes large i.e. +/- 3 to 5mm.

PDF is opened in Adobe Reader which is usually supplied as standard software with a new computer, if you haven't got Adobe Reader on your computer then just log on to Adobe and the Reader software is a free download.

Please don't open the drawings with any other software as you introduce a potential for error.

Like I said its long winded but using Adobe Reader is straightforward and simple

                                    Dave

No problem in issuing the drawings in a different format DXF, Auto Cad ect I use TurboCad so we would need to find a compatible exchange file.

I appreciate that you understand how these systems work but it might help those who don't understand if you helped explain the difficulties involved in changing scale.

                                      Thank you Paul

Please note….Frame 1 has printed crisp and clear, but the rest. up to the keel detail,s are printing in shadow mode

There is a shadow on most black lines….about 0.5mm apart

Don`t think it is a printer fault, as the dim lines are crisp and so are the red lines

                                      The prints are still useable

                                      Bob

PS Also 10.PDF….Has no title block and has only printed the LH end of the decking

                                                    15.PDF….Has no title block

DXF will be fine for me.

I will try to help and explain about rescaling later but am on Grandad duties at moment. Looking after elder one while the youngest, 16 months, is having to be nursed as she has just been diagnosed with tonsillitis this morning.

I have printed the frames, keel and building board plans and have not had any issue with "shadows" as Bob has reported. Do agree 10.pdf and 15.pdf appear to have a problem as indicated. I have noted the lines indicating the cut out for the propshaft tube on the keel are not parallel, not a problem but thought I should notify the drawing office.

However here is my quick review.

The purchasing process is simple via the JustGiving site and I had no problems with the download e-mail sent direct by Paul. I do have fibre broadband so speed was not a problem.

The instruction pack is, as Bob has said, absolutely spot on. The template drawings are very clear, I particularly like the inclusion of the "Building Board & Frame Positions" templates, a really good idea. Another useful addition is the "Scale Checker" I made use of this as the first frame I printed was under scale and on checking my printer settings I found the page size setting had reverted to Letter instead of A4. I also found it necessary to set for no margins. I would imagine this may depend on make and type of printer.

In conclusion, with the excellent instructions and frame pack a first time scratch builder should not have any problems. If they do there is plenty of help available via this thread and I would suggest it is well worth having a look through before starting.

I really believe the value of these drawings and instructions are well worth the donation I chose to pay. Again as Bob has said a lot of hard work has gone into this project and the least we can do is to reward Paul by donating to the charity he has decided to support with the proceeds. Even if you don't want to build the model it is my belief the instructions and templates will provide you with a great insight into building a hull from scratch and help you design something of your own. I join with Bob to urge you to donate what ever amount you can afford (£5 minimum).

Don't forget if you are a UK tax payer you can help the charity further by the "Gift Aid" scheme.

                                              Cheers

                                              Dave

I have enhanced drawings 10 and 15 and emailed them as updates to everyone who has donated, all further downloads will receive the enhanced set.

I am really pleased that Dave approves of the format, I spent a long time deciding on what I thought might be the best system and it is nice to receive such positive feedback.

Thanks for the welcome Bob although I have been "lurking " for a while !

I have followed the "Ellie" post from the start and have found it most informative

and amusing. My build will have to wait awhile until I have finished my Vic Smeed

Vosper Patrol launch (retrieved from the loft after starting it many years ago).

I must say that I thought the plans would be in big demand so come on people and support a good cause.

A couple of photos for those who build the twin motor version. These show the rudder servo connected to the two Robbe tiller arms using SLEC metal pushrod connectors (SL063-R). The rudders used are also Robbe items. Rudders and tillers from Cornwall Model Boats. Brass A-frames from Steve's Model Boat Bits – expensive but very smart!
