Hi. I have just 'obtained' a NiCad charger, however most of my boat batteries are Nimh ones. Can I safely use the NiCad charger or would it cause problems.

      Thanks for help

          The short answer is 'maybe'.

The medium-length answer is that the electricity is the same, but it may undercharge, over charge, or correctly charge your batteries depending on the charger type and how you use it.

An example of a longer answer can be found here: **LINK**

Many thanks especially for the 'link' Guess I'll just try with an older nimh battery.

So called 'smart' chargers are now really affordable when you think about the alternative of fried batteries.

I speak from a point of just suffering the loss of 2 nimh packs worth over £20, because I trusted an old charger.

Being unemployed & 63 years old (nearly), affording new battery packs & a new charger are beyond my means, so I now have a boat I can't sail.

Had I paid £10 more in the first place, I would have had a charger that was correct, my batteries would still be ok & I could still sail my boat, instead, I am £35 pound out of pocket, with a boat taking up room, that I can't use, it's a dead piece of useless plastic.

Buy a 'proper' charger that's up to the job & save yourself a lot of grief & self a**e kicking.
