New (to me ) boat

Hi everyone,

I’m totally new to boats but have experience with RC cars and felt like trying something a little bit slower. I recently bought this boat on Ebay and have currently replaced all the wiring and got it running, does anybody have any info on what type of boat it is? I’m hoping to renovate it completely and would like to get it looking as good as it should be if in use as a real boat.

It would help if you provided the name depicted the bow, plus the length and beam of the hull. is the hull of wood construction, or GRP?

Hi The name on the bow is Alfred its approx. 30inches long and was scratch built by the person I bought it off. The hull appears to be GRP everything else is balsa wood.

I know practically nothing about RC boats so am looking to learn by restoring this one.

Looks like it might be very loosely based on the Alexandra towing tug.

There are a lot of model tugs named Alfred, of various vintages and sizes but none seem to match yours.

It is possible that the builder bought a GRP hull and then invented his own superstructure and above deck layout.

It is clearly a very old fashioned design with the exposed bridge so probably depicted as early 20th Century.

You could go to the Sarik Hobbies website and search on “Tugs” and see if there is something that matches. The alternative depending upon the workmanship of the superstructure, is to remove the superstructure and reuse the hull with you own build.
