Many, many years ago my grand parents were living in shelterd acomadation due to their age and my grandfather,ex WO RN, being the oldest resident was introduced to mountbatten who made the usual pleasent noises and wanted to get out until my grandfather said that he could remember him as a “Snotty young middy” who hid behind his fathers tails.
Mountbattens father was the Prince of Battenberg whom my grand father served under .My father has a photo of my grandfathers ship HMS Thistle chasing the german cruiser the Konisberg up the Rufigi river in africa .
My grandfather passed away at the ripe old age of 100 yrs and 9 months when asked what the secet of long life was he replied clean living as he sat back puffed on his pipe and sipped his whiskey.
