As you might have gathered I am having an off day with RC equipment, I was going to New Brighton to photo Brutus 2050 but my untrustworthy transmitter decided to have a tantrum and refused to work.

My better half said 'don't worry as you have some old 27 transmitters in the shed'…….but they decided to come out in sympathy with my untrustworthy 2.4.and also refused to work.

It was now 10am and I was getting very annoyed with everything electronic and transmitters in particular so I decided to fix them all with a big hammer and then drove to Steve Webbs in Frodsham to buy a nice, new and simple 2 stick 2 channel kit.

I purchased an Absima SR2S for the princely sum of £35.99 (which didn't seem to bad) and it has good reviews from the rough and ready RC car brigade.

I will let you know how I get on with, what I am assured, is a good, reliable and above all simple to use piece of kit.

Sorry, Paul – I misread the name of the radio as Abysmal… I hope it works OK. At least 50% of problems with radios are caused by the batteries.

Most are caused by what we teccies usually refer to as "Hardware/User Interface Conflicts".

It covers a multitude of sins……..and sinners wink

                  Dear All

Pleased to report that the new transmitter bonded with the receiver at the first attempt, it was a very simple process written in a way that even I could understand.

I treated myself to swapping the motors to a pair of 12v Torque Masters running through one of Mr Milbourns excellent P98 ESCs had a little hiccup when a quick test broke a motor mount so I have been inventive with some heavy duty steel strapping to hold the motors in place.

Everything is working perfectly and the boat roars like a lion when I push the stick forward.

Camera, video and boat batteries are all charged and I even have my trusty little recovery boat ready so now I'm all set to go sailing tomorrow.

Dave – I take it that in Paul's case you are referring to the use of a hammer as the hardware/user interface conflict! smiley

Paul – not hush hush projects from you as a well!

                      Chris

PS. Sorry for the red font, don't why it's happened and can't change it.

                        Hello Captain Bob

Just got back from New Brighton and I am pleased to report that the new transmitter works like a charm, good range, excellent response and well built (solid)

It took me back to the old days when 2 channel transmitters were the norm and it was great, there is no fiddly pre-programming to do and no worrying about dropping expensive / delicate equipment.

Changing the motors turned out to be a bad idea as half way through the sailing both sets of straps became loose and the muted thunder of the motors became a deafening roar as they tried to rip themselves out of the boat.

I was running 12v from a large 12v 7amph battery which lasted for 20 minutes, very impressed with Daves P98 ESC as it handled the amps and all of my abuse without even getting warm.

                        Hi Chris

My limited knowledge of electronics encompasses a basic understanding of circuits a limited ability to solder and how to fine tune the equipment with a 7lb hammer.

This project isn't really hush hush as it has been going on for years but I don't want to reveal the final outcome just yet as there is a chance it might pop up in the magazine.

                        Paul
