        Found this on the net……

We used to holiday in this part of Anglesey and often wondered why the beach was called ……Cable Bay!

And also at Church Bay too!

Me thinks another recce is called for!……Are you coming, our Geoff?

Further to the above post………More exciting news!

I now recall…………….We were in the same area, a few years ago. when we came across a rusty steel delapidated shelter, just below the cliffs, on the beach…………Mmmmmmm?

          The door was unlocked…….Hmmmmm?

Went inside………And to my utter amazement!……….It was full of corroded electrical equipment!………………..What?…..Yer kiddin`!……No!…..Absolutely true!
I remember looking at it, at the time in amazement, and being an engineer in my previous life, could not understand the reason for such hi-tech stuff….on the beach……..covered in sea water!

          Now, it`s obvious!……..It`s a Telegraph Terminal Station!……WOW!

Can`t believe it really, but what else can it be?

Just dug out this photo, I took in 2009 of the very bay!

It could be a false alarm…..But I love mysteries!

When the kids are back at school, we`re off on a trip out!

          Can`t wait!………Cable Abell

              Hello Mark

I only hope, the readers don`t get bored!

              Just found this on Flashearth…..
The arrow marks the shed, but it looks too big from what I recall and seem to remember it being more to the left?
But look at that trench coming from the shed….out to sea!

It can only be a cable!……..or a sewer!

We can`t wait for next week…….We`re off tomorrow!

Drove 140 miles to investigate a distant pipe dream!
It was high tide and we couldn`t get round the headland
What a nice day for a Treasure hunt!

So we had an early lunch

Er……..That`s funny…….I thought it was an iron shed?…….Not breeze blox!
Don`t like the look of this, chaps!
So I forced the creaking door open a little…………?

When my eyes got used to the gloom…..
                        There it was!
                        An electric motor!
                        It was a pumping station!
                        Oh my giddy Aunt!
                        Ha! Ha!…………….But what a crackin` day out
                        Did yer like that?

Sorry about that chaps, but it could have easily gone the other way!

On the way back, we did pass a genuine Cable Station, and it was this one…
About one mile south of my pumping station!

                        Thanks for looking, chaps!…….Bob

                            Thanks for your post

It’s a pity the trip was a Wild Goose Chase….As we say here in England!

Can’t imagine what the pump was doing, it was only 1 inch diameter bore, didn’t see a pool in the garden

It was the “thrill of the chase” and curiosity getting the better of us.
                                We just had to go!

                                Here`s another little titbit!….
For years we`ve been going to Chester and I noticed something on the river banks and asked quite a few people in the area, including the pleasure boat captains, what they were, but got nowhere.

What did you see?….You may ask…….”Shortly” is the reply

Only yesterday, I got a flashback of what I`d seen at Chester!……”Well, you little tease!”……..Yep!

So I Googled the subject, and got this!…….. http://www.chestertourist.com/greateastern.htm
                                Which is really surprising?

When GE did the biz in the Atlantic………That wasn`t the end of the story, by no means!
The cable had to be continued, across Ireland, across the Irish sea to Church Bay, Anglesey, across the Menai Straits, across Wales and eventually….To London

                                “Gerron with it!”

Now, back to my story…..The cable had to cross the River Dee!

Guess what`s on the river bank at Chester?

Two signs saying……”Telegraph Cable”……………If only I kept that picture?

Picture to follow shortly…………..Like it?……You bet!

Just found this little snippet on YouTube, quite interesting.

Who can spot the deliberate mistake on the picture of Great Eastern, early in the film?

You are quite right there, GE didn`t have railings, but that wasn`t the deliberate mistake that I spotted!

The correct answer is…….Coming into “Hearts Content,”  she should only have FOUR CHIMNEYS!
Number four chimney was removed for cable access

                                        Hi Bob
You seem to be right into this model boating stuff and although I don’t know anything about Cable ships, I do want to get into the hobby.
                                        .
My problem is that I decided to get a kit of the KD PERKASA made by Precedent, but they are out of stock, and as I live Australia I am finding it hard to get one.
                                        .
I am looking for a Fibre Glass or Plastic or wood kit for the Torpedo Boat K.D.PERKASA 24th scale (49″ long).
                                        .
So if you or any one knows were I can get a kit from, please let me know
Any help is much appreciated,I have contacted Cornwall’s
Aplo’s if I shouldn’t have posted this request.

Can’t help you with the Perkasa requirement.

I can only suggest you consider a scratch built model?

Caught in a violent storm in mid Atlantic, assisting the Great Eastern in the cable laying episode. Note the paying out sheave at the stern

I have taken off a couple of the pics Bob has posted which were taken by Dave Wooley as these will shortly be appearing in the magazine in a gallery feature and we don’t want to pre empt that!

It wasn’t Bob’s fault as he thought I had given him the go ahead to post them and I didn’t make myself clear!

                                                    Sorry Bob!

                                                      Here`s the Agamemnon again

Note the cable barrier around the rudder area

I wonder, did they install a small steam engine and prop for better maneuverability?
                                                      Wouldn`t be surprised!
