Chris: Bob previously stated the need for speed, after I myself said slippers should be sedate, so…..

After all it has a turbocharged V-8 (50) in it. Zoooooooooooooooom

Bob. The strakes are a worthwhile addition. Will not detract from performance, and can only help (especially when going FAST!)

O right, didn't know about the supercharged V8! Should have guessed with those vents on the rear deck! Wouldn't be needed with a Morris 1000 or Ford 100E motor! So will be like a wolf in sheepskin lined slippers!

Time for some of the red liquid I think!

        Cheers, Chris

Last time I talked to a slipper owner he said there was a 100E motor in there (have i already said that?)

          Bob has an 850…obviously a V8-50.

            Hi Ashley

What size of prop should I use, with the model having an MFA 850 motor, please?

            Bob

The 850 will turn an X50 two blade plastic prop no problems, and this is what MFA sold to go with the motor.

I would try something just a bit smaller to start with, say an X40 or 45, as these will give less current draw and the battery will last a bit longer. It will not go as fast of course…..

                Thanks Ashley

Will get a selection of props and have a play, when next I see them on sale

I could easily make a few two bladed props

A strip of brass, twisted at each end would be easy enough?

                Roughly speaking of course

                Bob

                PS… Have I got any brass?……Nope

Not worth making a prop Bob. The two blade ones are cheap and will perform much better than a home made one.

You would ever get the pitch on a brass one that the plastic one has.

Progress is rather slow at the moment, chaps Spent the most part of two days, inventing the wheel!

                    A steering wheel that is!

Rejection rate is high due to failure to meet exacting standards!

We are getting there now I hope

Is the steering wheel driving you mad?

This is where a 3D printer comes in handy but being a perfectionist you probably would regard this as cheating.

Ashley is right about plastic props, they are inexpensive and probably cheaper than making your own.

                        Hi there Paul

I tried to find a suitable toy car that I could cannibalise for quite a few weeks, but no luck

Made a few tentative attempts at making my own, but without my lathe, it was difficult

Tried several thicknesses of ply, but not good enough, tried brass, still no good tried a few thicknesses of Ali. not bad, then realised I had run out of Ali!

I`ve ended up reserrecting a scrapper and decided it`ll have to do!

                        It`s a pitiful story I know

It feels like going round in circles alright, Chris

Without a nice steering wheel on display, it has dampened my enthusiasm somewhat!

Anyway, I could always try again later on, when a nice wheel comes along

Here`s my effort for the time being………..

When I can find it. that is

Last thing to worry about, a steering wheel, Bob!

DIY places sell rings for hanging curtains on poles, and they make admirable life belts and steering wheels. They come in a variety of sizes.

In any event, I would get the figures in there first and then size the wheel to suit them?.

The inside width of the cockpit is 5 inches wide

                                I`ll call that 5 feet

That means the scale of the model is,,,,,,1 inch to 1 foot

                                That is 1/12th scale

Hobbies Ltd have dozens of dolly figures at 1/12th scale

                                See photo

                                Some are adjustable too

That miserable sod with the top hat on looks a bit like me and may be appropriate?

Very nice Bob, however I do think it needs to have a bit more blue up to or just over the waterline.

Have you test floated it yet and if not, why not??

                                              Link

By the way the stand looks like it could do with being a little heavier. Maybe if you fixed it to a cast iron base plate!

I've also always been a fan of using the cast resin type of doll's house figures for boats of an appropriate scale. I'm not keen on the figures that are dressed with real cloth as they always seem to look so 'doll' like and unrealistic. The cast resin ones though have lots of scope for modifications.

Richard, I agree that the resin look the most realistic but despite many searches I've failed to find any suitable in 1:12 scale. Well I've found the odd one but not enough for a collection of 2 or 3 which is why I've settled on some plastic ones with moveable limbs that don't look bad.

Bob, looking good and looking forward to seeing it tearing up the lake burbling serenely along!
