      Hi All,

I'm new to model boating, built some rubber band powered free flight planes many years ago but otherwise little build experience.

I'm near finishing my first boat (scratch build about 15 inch long), I've made plenty of mistakes along the way. however the point of a small build was to make 'cheap' mistakes before I try a more ambitious project.

Soon I'll need somewhere to try it out but can't find anywhere local. My nearest well known landmark is Trent Park, near M24-J24. Does anyone know of a pond/lake or club I could use near here?

Trent Park are unlikely to let me use their Japanese Water Garden!

          Hi Sinking,

You maybe interested in the Broomfield Model Yacht Club near Enfield ??

I think they are looking for members.

          Regards Ray

            Thanks Ray,

I was aware of the club but their pond is 'broken' at the moment – problems with well / pump. Been like that for a few years I believe. Guess I could try to make contact anyway in case they have an alternative…

But you just know that it will rain for 4 months over the winter !! we need to save more of it !!

You have canals etc around Picketts Lock area try there.??

              Regards Ray

You could try contacting the Model Power Boat Association (MPBA). Not all model boat clubs are affiliated to the MPBA, but they may be able to identifying clubs near you that you can then contact to identify where they sail. I think most clubs have a facility to allow casual members to use their facility for a small fee.

Someone, a new boy, once asked how much it was to boat on the pond, but I blurted out that it was free before realising I should have tabbed him for a tenner….

                  OBVIOUSLY I wouldn’t have taken any money….

Thanks for your suggestions, I'll poke around a bit more.

My Vic Smeed Vosper RTTL plans have arrived – looks a bit ambitious for me as only a second build! Think I'll hang on till I have a bit more confidence.

                    Thanks

                      Hi Sinking,

We are Vic Smeed fans on here, a good choice fairly straight forward hull and loads of detail on deck I've had the plan for years but havn't got round to it yet, although you can lighten up the construction with thinner ply skins as it was originally designed for Diesel or Glow power.

If you would like to come south over the bridge, the Chantry MBC has day membership for £2.00 to try your new boat, all facilities by the lake, Weds, Sat & Sunday mornings.

                      Regards Ray
